9. Irene Horn has a problem with another parent

Nikki ushers in your morning appointment. Irene is back in your office, this time with Price Jansen, Lydia Jansen’s father. Lydia was another student athlete, the captain of the field hockey team, and she was running into the same problem as Simon Forney. The other teachers had cut her some slack since the team was doing well, but once again Irene Horn was being a stickler for policy.

Price is a calm, good looking man, who you guess is in his late 30s. He’s one of those tech entrepreneurs who made his millions selling a startup to a bigger company and was now coasting into middle age with a hot, second wife and kids who hated him.

The conversation goes much the same as your conversation with Irene and Dana went yesterday. Irene looks at you with a blush, knowing what side of her you saw yesterday. She can barely concentrate on the conversation and you know she’s picturing herself sandwiched between you and another parent.

“Alright.” You cut in, “look, Irene, this isn’t the first time we’ve had this conversation, and I think that means we need to escalate how we deal with issues like these.”

Irene looks at you, wide eyed. She isn’t sure what you’re going to say next.

“Come bend over the desk.”
