Chapter 3: Worst Day ever

I couldn't help but feeling a since of dread as I made my way over to Julie's place.

When I arrived I greeted Julie with a hug and kiss like usual at her doorstep. Julie's body was stiff and uncomfortable in my arms and she shifted her head to place my kiss on her cheek instead of her lips. After she her uncomfortable greeting, she moves out the way of the doorway and invites me inside.

When I entered, I was shocked to discover the entire apartment is in the process of being packed up. Boxes piled up high on top of each other, each labeled with the name of the content inside. After briefly scanning the room to try to figure out what's happening, I noticed a box on the counter labeled "John's Stuff".

"Okay babe. I'm going to need an explanation of what's going on." I say confusion clear in my voice.

"I'm moving. Tomorrow. My job offered me a better position at a office overseas. It's too good of an opportunity to pass up. I'm sorry but I want to break up." She says coldly clearly intending to make this as quick and painless as possible.

Of course this coldness could only move to make me more hurt and frustrated. "Is that why you been avoiding me so much lately? So I wouldn't figure out your plan? So you had the time to pack up and completely catch me off guard?"

"John. I'm sorry but this is for the best. What would be the point of I told you months ago. You'd still be hurt and upset. That would then guilt me for making what is honestly the obvious decision for my future. I'm sorry but I couldn't let you hold me back from something great."

Even she seemed to realize the cruelty of her words seconds after she said them. Before she could apologize, I simply grabbed the box containing my stuff and walked out the apartment. Julie called after me. Probably not wanting to end the conversation as the asshole but simple kept walking. Never looking back.
