Chapter 231

What does Hera want to tell James?
She was able to escape the race
“We arrived at the coordinates.” Hera explained.
“What happened with the race?” Gogo asked while she was stretching out her back, doing amazing things to her breasts and abs. When she saw you looking, she glared at you and sat back down and crossed her arms.
“Well, it turns out you get disqualified if you start shooting at people, “ Hera replied with a smirk.
“How good is the soundproofing that we didn’t hear the cannons?” You asked out loud, deeply concerned. You considered what would happen if there was an engine problem or pirate attack. Then you thought of a much more important question. “You didn’t blow anyone up right?”
“It was only a few warning shots,” Hera said. You heard a little humor in her tone so you relaxed.
“And we didn’t have any police after us?” You ask, figuring that Prime Solar Patrol would have wanted to talk to us about the race we were dragged into. At the very least to help determine what’s going to happen to the instigators/criminals.
“Not any more…” Hera smirked darkly.
“What does she mean by that?” Ranko inquired with her head cutely cocked to the side, her pigtail hanging off her shoulder.
(45 minutes before)
“Hello folks, if you are just joining us, we are entering hour three of the hypermatter hostage race. Three characters had an argument over who got to buy the last of a station’s hypermatter and then escalated when they dragged 13 innocent ships into an illegal space race.” April O’Neil explained to the audience.
“While random races over fuel are not too uncommon, involving unwilling participants is what makes this illegal,” Lois Lane took over the report. “Solar Patrol is on standby at the race’s official finish line to arrest the rogue characters and any Prime Worlders on their ships.” The broadcast did a screen transition where it showed the race and the three problem ships. A Duck Dodgers, Marvin the Martian, and Miss Martian were shown with lines connecting them to three ships, two of them stuck in the middle of the pack of ships.
“If they are fighting over fuel, why are they wasting the little fuel they have on this race?” Iris West asked as she looked over at her co-anchors. All three of them were in styled hair, beautiful makeup, and dresses of varying exposure.
“Stupidity knows no bounds,” April snarked with a little laugh.
“Too true April,” Lois agreed before Iris looked at a note that a little reporter mouse passed her. “Though the hypermatter fuel is used on some ships for FTL travel while using other fuels for intrastellar travel. Though in a somewhat similar vein, while I understand that the hostage ships are stuck following the race path, why don’t they turn off their engines or slow down.”
“That is because the space race system that they hijacked does have ‘catch up’ on, forcing them to be active participants,” Iris explained, reading off of the note. “It’s also why Solar Patrol is not just tractoring them in place; the ship may blow their engines as the systems try to **** them to break free.”
Lois was about to make a comment when a bright flash appeared on a display off screen. “Huh?! What just happened? Can we get a rewind?”
The studio crew complied and rewound the stream and showed the source of the flash. A small and bulky looking freighter started diving into the path of a long and sleek Normandy-class ship. Each time the Normandy-class ship would move out of the way. Unfortunately, the freighter was persistent and even tried forcing the Normandy-class into other racers.
“Those are two of the hostage ships aren’t they?” Lois questioned, causing April to check and nod. “Looks like Patrol is going to have a fourth ship to detain after the race.” Suddenly, the cannon on the underside of the Normandy-class extended and fired a shot that grazed the freighter’s shields. Immediately the bluish energy field that demoted the ‘track’ around the Normandy-class turned red and the glowing sign above the ship turned from ‘6th place’ to ‘disqualified’.
The Normandy-class shuttered and shook as if controls were snapping between different inputs. Suddenly, the ship righted itself and took off, making a course away from the race.
“Amazing folks, it appears the…Winged Heart found a way to disqualify themselves and broke free from the race.” April announced while a few Solar Patrol ships left the finish line and followed after the Normandy-class. “There goes Patrol following them in case they need assistance. Or for firing their cannon at another ship.”
“Hopefully they aren’t in too much trouble,” Iris shrugged as she refocused on some information being passed to her. She read some of the information she had on the Winged Heart. “Huh.”
“Oh? Did you find something juicy?” Lois asked as she leaned forward with an interested and gossipy tone.
“Well Lois, it looks like the Winged Heart is registered to a friend of April’s,” Iris West said with a sickeningly cheery tone. “Put him up, Gumball.” A blue cat in the control room gave a thumbs up and put a picture of James Gardner. “Well look who it, James Gardner. Didn’t he win a date and more with our own April O’Neil during the last Blackthorn Fundraiser?”
“Yes he did,” April said with a bit of blush. “Small Solar System I guess.”
“Considering what time you got back, I bet you had lots of ‘fun’ on your date.”
“Lois!” April scolded with a red face. Iris noticed the looks from their producers and interjected.
“Ladies, we can talk shop later,” Iris said before pointing out what was happening on screen. “It looks like Mr Gardner’s ship decided to go to FTL before talking to the police. Oh and it looks like more ships are deploying the disqualification method on each other. This is going to be quite the busy day for our flyboys in blue.”
“Well, we’re going to have to answer so many questions later,” you sighed as the news recording ended. “Eh, the lawyer could probably just say that we were going to miss the honeymoon reservation and they might let it go.”
“They might go easy on us since we barely even notice the race at all,” Kyoka suggested. “They might only go for Hera.”
“Hey!” Hera defended herself over the comms. You debate going back to the Solar System or going ahead with your honeymoon. Eventually, you decided what to do after consulting with Aelita and the catnip high Starfire.
What do you decide to do?
