Chapter 21 by Westwall Westwall

What does she choose?

She wants to sleep alone.

"I think it would be best if I slept alone, if that's not a problem," Leaf said, her gaze fixed on the ground. It was difficult for her to express this preference; she didn't want to seem ungrateful or offend the man who had been nothing but kind. Leaf was aware of the importance of setting boundaries, especially with someone she had just met. She wanted to avoid any situation that might lead to regrets later on.

When she finally mustered the courage to look up at him, she noticed a hint of disappointment in his expression. However, he quickly masked it with an understanding nod.

"Absolutely, no issue at all," he replied, his voice warm and reassuring. He gestured towards the tent, adding, "Make sure you're comfortable and warm. And if you need anything, just let me know."

Grateful for his understanding, Leaf smiled appreciatively and stepped into the tent. To her pleasant surprise, it was quite cozy inside, more so than she had expected. The interior was well-organized, with a sleeping bag laid out neatly and a small lantern providing a soft glow. The campfire outside had reduced to glowing embers, casting a gentle light through the tent's fabric.

As she settled down for the night, Leaf's thoughts lingered on the man outside. She could hear the faint rustling of his sleeping bag as he made himself comfortable. Her mind was a whirl of thoughts and reflections on the day's events, but the exhaustion of the journey soon took over, and she drifted into a deep, restful sleep.

The next morning, Leaf awoke feeling rejuvenated, the impromptu rest having done wonders for her. She quickly got dressed, stepping out of the tent to find the older man tending to a small breakfast fire. The smell of cooking eggs filled the air, a simple yet inviting aroma.

"I hope you're a fan of eggs," he said with a friendly grin, handing her a plate with a well-cooked breakfast.

They spent the morning chatting amiably, the conversation flowing effortlessly as they ate. The man shared more of his stories, and Leaf felt a sense of camaraderie in his company. When it was time to depart, she thanked him for his hospitality, feeling a tinge of sadness at leaving the peaceful campsite.

After saying their goodbyes, Leaf set off once more, her spirits lifted and her body refreshed. She felt ready to face the challenges ahead, her mind already on her next destination: Pewter City. The journey was far from over, but the unexpected rest and the kindness of a stranger had given her new energy and determination. "Pewter City, here we come!" she thought, stepping confidently onto the path leading out of Viridian Forest.

To Pewter City!
