Chapter 5 by fischch fischch

What's next?

They enter the Lobby

As soon as the hallway ended they turned to their left and found the door in the lobby to have gone through a rapid change. It was completely obscured. Where it once was, lumps of green and branches were sticking out, looking like land that was reclaimed by nature. Some of the floor seemed somewhat grassy by the doorway, and moss seemed to stretch out several lengths in radius around the door. Stacy, continuing to believe in the theory that it was all a prank, stood there frozen with a confused expression. For a brief moment one could catch Simon's eyebrow raise, but otherwise he seemed to remain perfectly stoic, staring at the alien sight. Allison was the only one who was capable of breaking the silence, and did so.

"Yeah, um, this doesn't look like an option. Let's, uh, find a different exit."

Simon snapped out of his stare and glanced toward the girls. "There's a few emergency exits. Maybe we'll take a look at them." Briefly thinking he considered which of the exits to head to. If they headed back to the eastern hallway they would be back at the cafeteria, and it did have two exits of its own. Or they could try the western hallway, although that was an unfamiliar route for him, as it mostly had conference rooms and a few classrooms. There was a staircase in the lobby, but doing anything from the upper floors was a bit risky and probably should be saved as a last resort. "We should head back to the cafeteria, there's at least two exits I know of."

Allison replied with an "Okay," and the two began to head back to the eastern hallway, before stopping a few seconds later when they noticed Stacy hadn't moved and stood still. They looked back at her for several more seconds before Allison cleared her throat and began to loudly ask, "Hey, Stacy, are you alright?"

It seemed to break her trance. The silent extrovert came back to life, but with a vigor that didn't do anything to ease the concerns of Allison and Simon. Stacy began walking toward the overgrown door, and began to yell at it as if there was someone on the other side. "HEY OPEN UP. THIS ISN'T FUNNY ANYMORE. YOU'RE ALL GOING TO BE IN TROUBLE. OPEN THE DOOR NOW!"

The calmer two members of the party looked at one another with concern. A powerful feeling of tension hung in the air, and the two felt a sinking feeling in the pits of their stomach. They needed to get the girl back into control, or else the ominous feeling they felt would evolve into something more concrete. They began taking a few careful steps toward Stacy, their caution being in a small part fearing Stacy's reaction, and in large part fearing something that they didn't quite see yet.

A moment of silence followed Stacy's outburst, and the little ball of energy seemed to snap at the lack of the response. "I'M TEARING DOWN THIS STUPID CRAP AND GETTING OUT!" She practically threw herself at the door's overgrowth, trying to pry branches and green things out of her way, getting closer to the door.

Allison and Simon began noticing that the overgrowth started fluttering a bit, coming to life, and not because of the wild girl's thrashing. Parts of it untouched by her almost seemed to vibrate and shake, at first subtly, but increasing in intensity as the seconds passed. This didn't behave or look like any Flora that Allison knew about.
