Lunch

You take your bags and head out the door, you look back at the guy and Ashley, she waves at you and smiles. You smile back and turn to walk away. On your way out, he offers to take you both to a high end brunch place.

He asks if there is anywhere special that either of them would like to go. You suggest one of your favorite places-a vegan-friendly cafe known for its delicious smoothies and egg scrambles. Ashley giggles in delight and decides that this place sounds perfect for brunch.

The three of you hop in his car and speed off towards the cafe. You can feel his eyes on you as he drives, but it feels more like appreciation than judgment today. He pulls into the parking lot and takes note of all the other cars around us – luxury sedans, hot rods, a few motorcycles here an there; it was quite a diverse lot! As soon as you step out of the car he takes Ashley's hand in his and leads you both into the cafe.

Once inside, he introduces himself to the hostess as "Robert" and asks for a table for three. She happily ushers you to a corner booth with an excellent view of the garden outside. Robert explained that he's a lawyer and investor, and owns a prestigious private club downtown.

You both settle in your seats as Robert barks out an order for an extravagant breakfast for the table. The chatter begins to pick up as you all tuck into the delicious fare before you, with Robert and Ashley regaling everyone with tales of their wild nights at the club, detailing all the fun they had with their eclectic array of friends. Your envy starts to gnaw away at you as you listen, left feeling like a fish out of water.
