Chapter 11

What happens next?
Lunch with Sarah
After a quick stop by Katherine's office to grab her lunch box, I approached Sarah's office and knocked on the door before opening it. Sarah was at her desk, typing on her laptop and eating her lunch.
She observed me for a brief moment before smiling. "Hi Katherine, what can I do for you?"
I locked the door and sat in front of her. "No need to keep pretending for now, Sarah."
"Well, I had to make sure. You could maybe have removed her."
"You know I'll stay as her until tomorrow." I replied as I started to eat.
Katherine was a pretty good cook, the salad she made for her lunch was delicious.
She giggled. "I know, yes. But honestly, even if I witnessed it with my own eyes, it's still so surreal to know that it's you in front of me, Ed. Are you still feeling alright? How was your morning?"
I glanced at my mature feminine body, smiling slightly. "I'm still good. It feels pretty natural to be Katherine now, I taught her classes flawlessly."
"And how do you feel about being a woman specifically?" She asked.
I blushed slightly, looking away. "Hmm... It's... not that bad... It's interesting so far..."
I was a bit ashamed of enjoying it so much, but I knew I could be truthful with Sarah.
Sarah smiled teasingly. "Well well, I didn't expect you to like it so much."
"It was your idea to make me wear a woman..." I muttered in protest.
She chuckled. "Relax, I'm just teasing. I just find it interesting. Do you think your new instincts are what make you more comfortable as a woman?"
"Probably." I started, looking at my current body again. "I'm... fairly certain to be a cisgender man... but I don't feel any dysphoria. As I said, it feels natural to be a woman. It's as if I've always been Katherine, her body truly feels like mine."
"Well, you've always been a fairly... 'manly' man, so it does surprise me a bit to see you so chill about this. Maybe it's another question Dahlia could answer next time."
"Oh yeah, speaking of Dahlia, I was surprised to see her in one of my classes this morning." I said.
Sarah raised an eyebrow. "Oh? She studies French?"
"Yeah, Katherine had her as a student since the beginning of this semester, and she's a very good and diligent student."
"Ah, I see, that's neat. I really want to learn more about her, she must have countless tales to tell, I'm sure her life is fascinating."
"Most likely. I don't know much about her either. But... she seems far **** than what I was led to believe during our first meeting. Almost as if she were a different person that night."
"How was she like?" Sarah asked, curious.
"She seemed... much more confident and scary when she turned me into a skinwalker."
"Hmm, that's intriguing." She said, finishing her lunch. "Anyway, do you think you could come to my place again once our classes are over? There are still a few things I'm curious about regarding your abilities, and I think it's better to test everything in a private place."
"Alright, but I'm not a lab rat, you know?"
"I know, but it's not a bad thing to learn the extent of your powers, don't you think?" She replied with a smile.
"Yeah, you're right."
"It'll also make it easier once we tell Claire the truth. We could probably do it tomorrow since it's Saturday. The sooner the better, right?"
I sighed. "I'm still a bit scared, but I agree..."
As I finished eating my own lunch, we heard a knock on the door.
"Sarah, are you there?" A male voice asked, one I recognised as belonging to Michael, another PhD student.
"I am, I'm with Katherine." Sarah said as she got up and unlocked the door.
Michael walked in, greeting me. "Hi Katherine, I didn't expect you here."
"We had things to discuss, so I invited her for lunch." Sarah replied.
Katherine's memories told me that this was the man Sarah mentioned when she said that she was getting along well with one of her colleagues. Despite knowing that Sarah was willing to get back with me, I couldn't help but observe him due to my last remnants of jealousy. He didn't look like he was much into sports, but he wasn't bad-looking. He did seem a bit insecure, his posture betraying his shyness, but he was apparently very kind and always willing to help.
So that's the guy she vibes with, huh?
Sarah walked towards me and gave me a knowing grin, her face hidden from Michael's view.
"Now, though, we're done talking, is that right?" She said, looking at me.
I smiled and stood up. "Indeed. I should probably take my leave and make sure everything is ready for my next lesson. Have a good afternoon."
"You too, Katherine." Michael said, stepping aside to let me leave.
I walked back to Katherine's office, grabbing the documents she would need for her afternoon seminars. I was trying not to let my jealousy bother me.
She's back with me... I have no reason to feel this way...
It was strange, but it felt like my emotions became stronger since I became a skinwalker. While it seemed better now that I was wearing Katherine, I remembered the intense jealousy I felt as I went to this campus to meet with Dahlia, observing the students here. This desire to skin and replace one of them was so intense...
Not to mention that I wasn't human anymore, that probably played a part in what I was currently feeling as well. Even if Sarah said that it was alright, my time as myself with her was now limited. I would need to steal another person's life at some point, making dating her all the more awkward in the long term. We wouldn't be able to have a normal relationship. It was something we'd need to have a proper talk about this afternoon.
I tried to sink back into Katherine's personality for the afternoon, focusing on teaching the rest of her classes properly. Afterwards, I left the campus, texting my daughter that I'd come back home late. She simply replied with a 'Ok', a typical answer from her.
I drove somewhere secluded and removed Katherine's face to call Claire, so she wouldn't worry like two nights ago.
"Ed? How are you?" She asked.
"I'm feeling better. I'm just calling to tell you that I'll spend another night with Sarah."
"I see." She said, pausing a bit before continuing. "Are the two of you back together?"
I smiled. "Yeah. We... decided to have another go at it."
"I'm happy to hear." She replied, her voice more jovial. "She seemed like a very nice woman when we met."
I looked down, taking a deep breath. "Tomorrow, I would like to tell you something important. I'll be back home before lunch, can you wait for me?"
"Sure, it sounds serious. Are you alright?"
"I am, yeah." I simply replied. "I have some things I need to do, have a good evening. And don't stay up too late."
Claire giggled. "Alright, Mom. Have a good evening too."
I smiled and hung up. I noticed as I glanced at my reflection in the screen that my face seemed more healthy. I turned on the camera and confirmed it. My skin regained its normal colour, I no longer looked pale or tired.
That's what Dahlia meant by me being able to keep my skin for a few years if I wore skins from time to time...?
It was good to know. I pulled back Katherine's face over mine and then drove to Sarah's place.
She opened the door and let me in. "Make yourself at home, Katherine."
We went to the living room, and Sarah boiled some water for the tea, knowing that Katherine was a big tea drinker too. "What kind of tea do you want?"
"Hmm, black tea is fine. Maybe with a bit of honey if you have some. It's Katherine's favourite." I replied as I approached the cage with the birds.
"Of course I have some honey. Give me a minute."
I wanted to see if the birds would still hate me as Katherine, or if they were more friendly now. As they fluffed up their feathers and glared at me when I approached my hand, I got my answer.
I chuckled and went to sit on the couch. "They really hate everyone apart from you, huh?"
"Almost everyone, yeah. There are a few exceptions, like my Mom. They do seem to like her too."
Sarah sat next to me and gave me the cup of tea.
"Thanks." I said as I started to drink.
The tea tasted really good, I had to admit. It was neat to be able to enjoy things I would usually dislike thanks to these abilities. I never was fond of tea before.
"So... What exactly do you want to try?" I asked.
"Hmm... There are a few things I'm wondering about, to be honest." She said, taking a more pensive expression.
What does she want to try?
