Yes, something did change

As Tim was driving home, he didn’t notice that his employee name tag had changed. His title changed from Cashier to Manager. He drove home to his apartment. His dog, Roxy, greeted him as he entered. She was a dachshund and was around two years old. She was always eager to see him. He felt bad leaving her for most of the day. He tried taking an early shift at work, but early morning wasn’t for him.

He refilled Roxy’s food and water bowl. Then he placed a frozen hot pot pie in the microwave and waited for it to cook. After it was done, he took it out of the microwave, sat on the couch, and watched TV while eating. Roxy lay beside him. He finished his show and went to bed.

The next day, Roxy was licking Tim’s face to wake up. He didn’t mind her morning kisses, but her breath smelled bad. He got up and looked at his phone. He was going to look at Tech magazines. But he remembered the ReWriter app. He still needs to test it. Open the app, he wonders what button he should use. He knew that he already used one of the buttons, so he had to see if the other buttons worked. He vaguely remembered what they did, yet he wished there was something that could remind him. Pressing a button at random, he pressed ‘Mind Control’. Then a prompt asks the name of a subject. He had to think about that one. He was thinking of using his boss’s name again, but there are other people he could try it on. He had to think of at least one person.
