Leaving for work

My alarm shattered the silence, reminding me that I needed to get ready for work. Lily rolled over, stretching languidly, her skin glistening with sweat. She planted a tender kiss on my forehead. As I sat up I saw Jake on the other side of her.

Last night felt like a dream, and I wasn't sure it had actually happened. I jumped out of bed, looking at the two of them laying there asleep, I didn't want to leave them together. They seemed so comfortable and at ease with one another. It made me feel jealous.

The morning sunlight streamed through the window. Lily's hair spread out across the pillow, golden tendrils framing her face like a halo. Jake, lying next to her, appeared relaxed in my bed.

I went through my usual morning routine. Unfortunately, today I had to head into the office. I was glad to be caught up with my work but I had meetings all day that I couldn't put off.

My head was filled with my personal life, but I needed to pull myself together. I managed to make myself look presentable, professional, even. I grabbed a coffee and walked out to my car.

Jake's car was parked next to mine and it reminded me that I'd left that cocky young womaniser in bed with my girlfriend. I tried not to focus on it.

After a short, uneventful drive, I arrived at the office. Greeting a few colleagues on my way in I made it to my office. Sat on her desk outside was Emily, my secretary. I hadn't seen her in over a week as I'd been working strange hours and out of office finishing up a project I'd been putting together.

Emily smiled as she saw me. "Good Morning Alex" she said as she handed me a stack of papers. "We missed you."

"Missed me? But I was only gone for a week!" I laughed.

Emily was a little older than me, in her late 30's she was pretty with blonde hair and a little more curvy than Lily. She had been working for me for nearly 3 years and we had a great working relationship.

"Anyway, I better get to work on this," I shook the stack of papers dramatically.

I went into my office and closed the door behind me. It was 10:30am when I looked up from the stack of papers. I'd already been here for 2 hours. I thought back to Lily and Jake and decided to send a text to make sure everything was okay.

I messaged Lily: "Hey, how are you doing? Are you up yet?" I waited anxiously for her reply.
