The Next Day

"Wow..."

Jen blushed a little as Gwen Stacy stared at her over breakfast. Walt set a plate of biscuits and gravy in front of Jen and kissed her cheek before going to back to cooking humming happily. Jubilee set a cup of coffee infront of Jen and kissed her cheek as well just like Walt had.

"Wow," Gwen said again repeating herself.

Jen grinned. "Is 'wow' good?"

Gwen looked at how happy everyone was and nodded. "Wow is good." She smiled. "If you're happy then I'm happy for you, Jen!"

Jen grinned. "Thanks Gwen! Let's eat! This smells fantastic!"

Gwen nodded. "It sure does!"

"Hold up," Walt said and carried over a plate of eggs and set them on the table for everyone to help themselves. "Fresh eggs!"

"What the...?" Gwen said staring. "Already?"

Walt nodded. "Yeah. There'll likely be loads more tomorrow as they're getting settled but yep the most industrious ones are already a laying. It's important to check 'em everyday. We don't want them going "broody" on us."

He handed Jubilee her plate of sausage and eggs over biscuits without the gravy and she handed him a coffee and they kissed before heading to the table. "By broody you mean they don't go motherly right away?"

Walt nodded. "Yep. A hen that's gone broody has her motherly instincts kick in... but generally that don't happen right away. She'll wait until she has enough eggs in a clutch that "feels right" to her. Some times it's a bunch and sometimes it's a few. But fertilized or not it takes the better part of a day for her to lay an egg. Get 'em every day and she'll just keep laying cause there ain't enough for her to care yet."

"Kinda spoils the "like a mother hen" image a bit," Jen said.

He shrugged. "If they go broody you'll see just that. The instincts kick in hard. Even fertilized an eggs in a sort of stasis. Until it reaches the right temperature nothing will happen. They can be induced to it early too. If you go out and put any kind of appropriately round objects in her nest she'll get set off. I heard tell of them setting on everything from golf balls to snake eggs before."

Jubilee paused from wiping Shogo's face. "Wait is that because...?"

Walt smiled and nodded. "Yep. They're a bit like you. They'll raise another hens eggs if someone puts them in their nest. But we don't want any of them to do that just yet. That's why the log book is gonna be important. We need to know and whoever takes over the project after us will need to as well."

They nodded. Jubilee looked around a bit wistfully. "It's... a bit sad thinking that this'll all be temporary like that." She smiled. "I had happy memories of the place from before and we've only added to it..."

Gwen and Jen nodded too. "It's been a nice temporary home while it lasted..." Gwen said.

"I haven't been here that long but I've already got a few fond memories myself," Jen said.

Walt blinked. "Why yall talking like that?" He reached for the hot sauce... the potent one.

Gwen blinked as she handed the sauce to him. "Here you go. Like what?"

Walt smiled. "Thanks. We ain't leaving yet and when we do we can always comeback. This place is our home. That's the deal I struck with Chuck and the Krakoa council. Any future visits for us, or any of the others who come with cause they already expressed a desire to visit, we'll be staying right here."

Jubilee laughed and grinned. "You mean it?"

He grinned at all of their smiles. "In exchage for all the help and support I'm giving them, as well as allying myself with Krakoa and protecting her interests as a sovereign nation, I'm an honorary citizen of Krakoa in perpetuity and the Xavier Estate is now reverted back to the Greymalkin Homestead and becomes my and my family's holding as well... though Chuck said we could just call it the Stark Homestead but I don't want to accidentally start getting any of Tony's mail." He winked and stabbed an egg.

The girls laughed. "Well that settles that," Jen said. "Come on ladies! Let's dig in and help out with morning chores around 'home" before everything else!"

"Speaking of where are we going today?" Gwen asked.

Walt sighed. "We might go somewhere else later on but I have to go somewhere by myself first."

They blinked at that. "You're gonna leave us behind?" Gwen asked.

Walt nodded. "I've got a private meeting to take and they don't like surprises amongst other reasons... so I want to tread lightly." *And some of you will definitely NOT like it.* he thought. *Can't afford to let this one get mucked up by egos and grudges... god knows its hard.*

Jubilee frowned. "It's not a woman you're trying to keep secret, is it?"

Walt actually laughed at that one. "Not at all! I'd much rather it was! No this is political and business stuff with another small nation."

Jen jerked her head up and stared. "No... you're not going to go meet with 'him' are you?"

Walt smiled. "I figured that might be your reaction. You really are exceptional Jen. I need to visit a fair few vips and heads of states and I promise to take you all with me for the rest... but not this one." He pushed back from the table carrying his plate to the sink and finishing his coffee.

"He's dangerous and you can't trust him!" Jen shouted rising.

Walt nodded. "He most certainly is dangerous... and honestly I wouldn't have it any other way..." he kisses Jens cheek. "You may not like it, and I'm not saying I condone all of his actions, but you only really know Reed's side of the story... and Reed "Mr Fantastic" Richards is not always right... infact he's quite often down right 'wrong' about things and this is one of the areas I disagree with him quite strongly. I trust his motivations. Because of that in some ways I trust him more than Reed."

Jubilee nodded and got his hat. "I don't know who you're talking about..." she put his hat on his head. "But I don't need to. I trust you, Walt." She kissed him. "Come back safe."

He smiled at her. "I will my love. Count on it."

Gwen also kissed him. "I'm even more lost but I feel the same. Becareful partner."

Walt smiled kissing her back. "Honestly you wouldn't know them and that's why I considered bringing you along... but they want to meet alone."

Jen had her arms crossed but she kissed him too. "I can't believe you said that... be extra careful. You want my advice you can't trust him... at all!"

Walt smiled and chuckled. "I will... and like I said that's how I feel about Reed. But they're similar that way." He pulled on his coat. "I'll let Victor know you said, "Howdy" Jen. Friday set in a course for scenic, Latveria."
