Preston's Request

Preston took Moon aside from the others and spoke, “You know for someone we only met not so long ago, you are quite an enigma.” “How so?” “Well most people I know have a price; that and they know what a ghoul is, or a radroach, or a bloatfly, or ….” Moon shoved Preston in the shoulder, nothing rough, “Must you really hold that against me for the rest of my life?” “Sorry, sorry, I can hardly find anyone who hasn’t heard of a radroach. That being said, I’ve told you about the Minutemen; how it was our job to come to the aid of other settlements.” “You spoke of it with high regards; one time you defended Greentop Nursery from some raiders.” “Yes, well, recently I have been looking over some of my possessions and I found this posting for help from the Minutemen; there's still a need for the Minutemen…” “Hold up Preston! Any call for help is months old; they are probably either dead or left.” “I know Miss Moon, however these settlers need help; if there is a possibility that they are still alive, still being harassed by whatever the Commonwealth has to throw at them, then I must answer the call.” “And you call me to do the same?” Annoyed sadness could be seen in her eyes. “I’m not demanding anything from you, I am merely asking you.” “I never wanted this, I just wanted to be a mother to a lovely son and passionate husband, not this life of killing just for survival.” “You don’t have to join me, but I am going.” “You're leaving us! Leaving us to defend ourselves just so you can get shot!” “How can I just stand aside while innocent people get hurt; how can you do so?” “But you’re hurting these fine folks here! We barely have enough people for watch.” Moon paused, shifting her head to the ground. Her conscience agreed, it was neighborly to help out your neighbors; however these guys were strangers of which Nate had cautioned against helping out complete strangers. “Look, I’m sorry, but if I don’t go to help; then I be betraying the oath I made, not to just myself but to all my comrades who died for our beliefs.”

Preston turned about to leave; a hand grasping his shoulder preventing him from leaving. “Look, if you die, then we are all screwed; at the very least the two of us can get the job done and be at home quicker than lone wolfing it.” Preston gave a slight smile. “I knew I could count on you; let's get going, it may be nothing, at least we’ll know.” The three: Hound, Preston, and Moon headed out with Reginald waving them off. It was early morning, the sun barely peeking from the ground, and the darkness only starting to recede. They headed East, getting caught up in a firefight against Raiders located at USAF Satellite Station Olivia. Raiders followed the group of three as they retreated from their outpost. Moon and Preston both agreed that taking these raiders out would be better than leading them to a settlement they were heading to; so the three stormed the outpost engaging in a long firefight. The sun had risen to its zenith, Satellite Station Olivia had been cleared of the threat; with Moon and Preston going through the base to find more ammo. Moon had wasted all of her ammo early on in the fight, having to grab random guns off the dead to continue the fight; Preston being a bit more drilled had exhausted his musket by the near end of the fight. “Hey Preston, I think I found something interesting.” “What is it, Miss Moon?” “A locket. Why would a raider have this?” “I can never understand the twisted mind of a raider beyond the most obvious; it’s probably a trophy or something.” “Should I keep it?” “Well, I can’t stop you, but we are here for bullets so let's do more of that.”

The three left Satellite Station Olivia with a few scrapes and bruises and more depleted clips of ammo. They finally reached Tenpines Bluff to very much find life within it. Moon and Preston walked up to the settlers as they quickly headed in doors; obviously hiding from an unknown threat. “Hello, we are Minutemen, we are here to help.” Moon spoke up. A brave older feller peeked from inside the hut he hid in. “Minutemen? I knew I sent a message out for your aid; never imagined it would be answered after the Quincy Massacre. Thought you guys disbanded for good.” “Well we are here, and here to help.” Preston piped up. “How may we help; what is the situation?” Moon pressed on. “Well we got Raiders, they come in about every month or so, extorting us for food and stuff and plundering us when we can’t pay; we know where they are coming, we just can’t…” “We got you covered, where are they coming from?” Preston questioned. “They’re coming from the direction of Lexington; that is all we can say.” “That is a start, but does not help us much.” Moon said. “Lexington? Lexington is crawling with ghouls; raiders wouldn’t make a base near there. Would they?” Preston said. “Hey, that’s all we know.” “Preston, with me for a second.” The two peeled away from the man who was still very much hiding in his hut. “Preston we might be in over our head with this one.” “I agree, but still we need to help.” “Preston, we don’t know where they are; all we know is a general direction. What if we get ambushed while we head down there?” “Eventually we’ll have to confront them. I mean if Tenpines Bluff goes belly up, then they will find a new target; I do believe we are the next closest settlement that ain’t fortified like Covenant.” “So we either deal with it now, facing ambushes or being outnumbered; or we deal with it later being raided by then in the middle of the night behind our wall and possibly losing people to the raid… I’d rather fight behind the wall if I am being honest.” “I know, but they’ll have the element of surprise and the initiative. We go in there we will have the element of surprise.” “Surprise an enemy that we don’t know where they are stationed.” “At the very least we can try to scout out the place.” Desperation could be seen in his face. It seemed like he was exhausting his repertoire of arguments. “Fine, we can do some recon. However, if we get ambushed, we run.” “Alright, I can deal with that.”

The two head to Lexington by the railroad; sneaking past Bedford Station due to the ghouls. Making it to the outskirts of Lexington; yep it’s full of ghouls. The two spotted Corvega Assembly Plant, both realizing that this might be a good staging place; if it wasn’t infested by ghouls. They made their way to the plant walking around the outskirts of Lexington. With a closer inspection it was occupied by Raiders. “Alright, they seem well entrenched and don’t have the guns to dislodge them.” “Miss Moon, I am in agreement with you, we’ll have to get more armor and ammo if we want to take this place with any ease.” BARK BARK BARK! The two looked back to Hound, barely getting a word out before a hulking mass stomp towards them. RWAR! A super mutant behemoth stammering to the group; intention was clear, their **** was necessary. A swift glance conveyed all the two needed. Nope nope nope, they’d rather take the raiders then that thing. Running towards the Raider’s base; fate seemed to push Moon into one direction, though she had to survive if she wanted to understand what fate wanted out of her.
