Chapter 7

What's next?
Confront the monster
Tripp's first step as a magical girl was a big one, literally.
He put his foot down and took off, leaping into the air with far more **** and speed than he had anticipated. It was almost like flying. His body felt weightless as he soared through the sky, skirt fluttering in the wind, bounding over whole trees and landing on the branch of one far from where he'd started.
Sam lands in one right next to him.
"Whoa. I guess we're both pretty light," Sam notes.
"Or pretty strong," Tripp offers. "Either way, traveling this way is a lot more fun than your dad's golf cart." He tries to sound brave, but his heart was beating like a drum. He had been sure he was going to land with more of a 'splat' than a graceful touchdown. His legs were shaking like jell-o. The considerable heel on his knee-high boots didn't help.
After a few more mighty leaps, the two (now) girls were starting to get used to their new forms, and were nearing the city. The monster was in sight, towering over buildings, nearing a busy thoroughfare. Car brakes squealed and came skidding to a stop. People ran every which way through the streets trying to get away from the volcanic creature, screaming and yelling, or else pointing phones at it trying to get it on video. It was chaos.
"Well, what do we do now?" Tripp asks, following Sam and landing next to her atop a nearby building. "I don't think 'ask nicely' is really an option here."
"We could try... I mean maybe it isn't inherently evil..." Sam starts. But as she says this, the monster swings one of its huge arms through an office building, shattering dozens of windows in an explosion of glass, and causing the upper half of the structure to collapse in on itself in a cloud of smoke and debris. Sam and Tripp both feel their stomachs drop in horror, and hope desperately that no one had been inside. "Never-mind. Negotiations are off the table."
The monster roars with delight at the ensuing pandemonium and begins glowing brighter and brighter.
Tripp feels himself step forward automatically, sensing something amiss. "Watch out! It's about to do something!" he shouts.
And a moment later, the beast opens its mouth and begins spewing molten balls of white-hot lava straight up into the air.
"There! Look out!" Samantha points towards a group of civilians on the ground. A ball of lava is hurtling straight for them as it falls back down to earth.
Sam leaps for the group, but Tripp notices another ball angling towards a small girl alone on the sidewalk, and dives for her. He's faster than Sam and grabs the girl just in time to leap them both to safety before the fireball crashes down with a massive 'BOOM!'
Tripp quickly sets the girl down in time to see the second fireball hurtling for Sam and the group of people. There's no way she can bring them all to safety in time! "Sparrow!" he shouts! His now-feminine voice is shrill with worry. the young girl screams.
The fireball crashes down and explodes a moment later. It's all Tripp can do to kneel down and put his back to the cloud of pyroclast to protect the young girl he'd just saved.
