Rachel Has A Laugh At My Expense

I'd seen Rachel laugh. I'd seen her show genuine mirth. But I'd never seen her laugh so hard she could barely even catch her breath.

I'm talking doubled over holding her sides laughter. The kind of laughter where you try to catch your breath only to catch a glimpse of the person you're laughing because of and then the laughter starts all over again.

The kind of laughter where people start to look.

Before long I grabbed and dragged her off to one side of the path, tucking away a little out of sight so that she could recover.

"Well that wasn't very ladylike of you," I quipped, "Pretty sure I heard a snort there."

"Oh you definitely heard a snort," she retorted, "But I hardly think you can really lecture me on what exactly is ladylike here. I mean, I'm trying to do the math here and I'm not judging at all, but I hardly think your track record tonight could be considered ladylike."

I blushed, opening my mouth to defend myself but then closing it again quickly afterwards.

"I mean you didn't get his number," she went on, "The one thing you were supposed to do. The whole reason you went over there and you didn't even do it.

"You did a whole lot more, mind you, but not that."

I smiled, shaking my head, "I suppose you're right. I just got... distracted."

"No problem there," Rachel said, straightening up and making sure she was presentable before she continued on her way, "Besides the way I see it, you're improving."

"How's that?" I asked.

"What's his name? The cute jock?"

"Jake," I replied.

She pointed, nodding, "There you go. You didn't even get the name of the handsome guy from this morning. You've got this guys name, but not his number. A few more tries and you might actually be able to get there."

My turn to laugh now, though not as hard as her.

"Well you know what they say," Rachel said, gathering my arm in hers and leading me back out and down the way, "Practice makes perfect."

"I don't know if I should be the one doing all the practice myself, though," I mused.

Rachel looked to me, raising an eyebrow, so I went on, "I mean you talk a big game, but I've never seen you really pull the trigger on any of it. I'm just saying, how do I know that you can actually walk the walk?"

She leaned over, whispering in my ear, "I would have thought our little rendevous this morning would have been proof enough."

Her teeth nibbled my earlobe and her breath tickled the back of my neck and I shivered, feeling a creeping warmth blossom up from within me and shudder out with need. Oh I remembered the bathroom and the way she'd made me feel.

And yes, she had a point.

And god I wish I could have lived in that and I wish I could have stayed in it. I wish I could have convinced her to drag me back in time to that bathroom and just never have left it.

But fate had a different idea.

So instead of anything fun we walked around the corner and I came face to face with a hit of nostalgia, with a memory that I don't know that I could have ever forgotten.

Except I did forget it, of course. Right up until then.
