Breakfast with Lily

Jake sauntered into the kitchen. He greeted Abby with a wink, before turning his attention to Lily. As he stood beside her, his body seemed to exude confidence. Lily, however, appeared uneasy, her eyes drifting between us nervously.

Jake addressed everyone in the room. "So, what's been happening? How's everyone holding up after last night?" His smile revealed a set of perfectly aligned teeth, accompanied by a self-assured demeanour.

I struggled to maintain eye contact with him, feeling uneasy around him, knowing what had happened. At the same time, I wasn't angry, what just transpired with Abby had certainly settled my nerves. As for Lily, well, I couldn't quite put my finger on how I felt about her right now.

"Come on Abby, I'll give you a ride," Jake said, flashing his winning smile. Abby hesitated for a moment, then nodded gratefully, grabbing her coat. As they headed out the door, she turned back to wave goodbye to me.

Her smile was warm and genuine. "Take care," she called, her voice full of sincerity. I raised my hand in acknowledgement, watching her leave the house. Despite being somewhat uncomfortable due to Lily's presence, a sense of contentment filled me.

I turned to address Lily, trying to regain some form of normalcy in the situation. "Did you sleep alright?" I asked gently, hoping to steer clear of mentioning the previous night's events.

Lily hesitated before answering, clearly still rattled by her experiences earlier. "Not really," she admitted quietly, her face pale and drawn.

"Last night was... intense. But don't worry, it doesn't affect us, I promise. You know that, right?" She stepped forward and gave me a hug, which took me aback slightly. It had been so long since we shared affection like this.

"Hey, come here," she said, pulling me closer. I allowed myself to be led deeper into the embrace, the comforting scent of her perfume surrounding me. We stayed entangled together for a few moments, neither one of us saying anything.

"You've got a thing for Abby though, hey?" she said, playfully patting me on the chest. She sounded more teasing than upset, yet it made me blush nonetheless. I cleared my throat, attempting to change the subject. "Do you want something to eat? Breakfast maybe?"

Lily smiled, letting go of me. "That sounds great actually," she agreed.

I went to the fridge, rummaging through its contents to find ingredients for breakfast.

"Make yourself comfortable, let me take care of this." Lily smiled in response, sitting down at the table and crossing her legs demurely. I glanced at her legs, admiring their sleek curves and perfect shape.

She noticed me staring, giving me a wink. "Like what you see?" she smirked suggestively. Before I could respond, she leaned forward, resting her elbows on the table.

"By the way, can you give me a lift to work later? I've got to go see James for something." James was Lily's boss at the Clock Bar. It was strange that he'd want to see her on a Sunday when she wasn't working.

"Sure, no problem," I replied casually, pouring some orange juice into a glass.

As we sat down at the table, the atmosphere became increasingly tense. Lily picked at her food, occasionally glancing at me with a concerned expression. "Is everything okay?" I finally broke the silence, setting my own plate aside.

"Yeah it's just James asked me to come in today when he saw me last night, he seemed pretty angry" she explained but didn't elaborate further.

"Are you sure you don't want to tell me why he was mad?" I prodded carefully, unsure whether asking would escalate things further between us.

"Nah, it's nothing worth getting worried about," she dismissed, avoiding the question.

Her answer left me feeling more perplexed than reassured. Was it something serious? Did she not trust me enough to share details about her work life?

Our conversation moved on to more lighthearted topics.
