Who's captured Lyndsey?
Romans!
The men were wearing plants and shrubs as cover, but their armour was unmistakeable. They were Romans! Either this was a pretty rough and ready reenactment group or I really had stumbled back in time to Ancient Rome. I stifled a gulp as the men circled around me, leering at me with unkind eyes. That look certainly hadn't changed since ancient times I shivered.
One of them barked something at me but I had no idea what they were saying. I figured it was Latin, but I wasn't even certain of that. I just stared at them dumbly, hoping maybe they'd figure I was just some mad woman, but then I heard one of them say, "germani mulier". My Latin was next to non-existence, but I knew some Roman history, like how the Germans and Romans hated each other. Was I in Ancient Germany, and was this the invading Roman Legion? I gulped, really wishing I didn't have blonde highlights.
I noticed one of the men sneering at me. They must have thought I was some dumb German woman with no knowledge of Latin, which I supposed wasn't far from the truth. They certainly seemed just as surprised by my presence as I was of theirs. I heard more words being barked, but this time I think they were orders by the...I guess the Centurion? Suddenly I felt a sharp point prod at my back. Now that was the universal language of, "move forward" and I was not going to be quibbling about that anytime soon.
