Claire closed her eyes and steeled her nerves, waiting to feel her core violently ripped into pieces. After a second she opened them, wondering why nothing had happened. Jonathan was still concentrating, but she didn't feel any different. Suddenly he looked up at her and smiled.

"Claire, I think since you're going to be in such a unique situation, we should do this one step at a time. I've just removed your form, appearance, and biometrics."

She looked down in shock. He had! She no longer occupied any unique form and her appearance simply... wasn't. She wasn't tall or skinny or muscular. She didn't have any scars or facial features. She was just a woman without any specific appearance.

Sid, the heavyset dispatcher, was staring at her in wonder. "It's like... I can see her, but I can't see anything about her. She's sitting right there on the bed, but there's no appearance."

Jonathan nodded. "Just presence. That's what you get when you take away the presentation aspect of a person. Now give me a second to gather up what I need from Mrs. Ashcroft."

Claire watched with awe as a similar transformation happened to the **** woman. First she became as visually unidentifiable as Claire herself, then an odd thing happened. Suddenly it just wasn't Mrs. Ashcroft anymore. The lump of unrecognizable living human tissue on the bed wasn't anyone. After a few more moments of concentration, Jonathan turned back to her.

"Claire, this next part will probably be uncomfortable, so I'm going to walk you through it. First I'll give you her outward attributes - appearance, form, and biometrics."

He once again furrowed his brows in concentration. Just as Claire was about to ask how long it would take, she felt an odd popping sensation. Suddenly her long, slender legs were stretched out between the twin beds. She felt her intense amber hair tickling the back of her neck and sucked in air through her flawless teeth. Sid and Steven were staring at her in shock and she got up to look in the mirror.

Her first impression was of a little girl trying on her mothers' fancy clothes. She didn't know how to walk - how to be - in this slender, graceful body. She'd never been particularly feminine in her fashion or overall bearing, but this body exuded femininity. She stepped back but her heel caught on the cheap fabric of the floor and she stumbled back, letting out a tiny squeak and jostling the formless, unidentifiable lump that had been Mrs. Ashcroft.

Drake actually laughed at this, causing her porcelain-smooth cheeks to redden. "Don't worry, Claire, you'll get used to the body soon. I'm going to put her personality in you now. Are you ready?" Too disoriented to reply, she simply nodded.

This time she had forgotten to brace herself, so the new personality slammed into her. It felt like something was being crammed inside of her even though it wouldn't fit. She groaned involuntarily and clutched her head. Sid rushed over to steady her, but she swatted him away.

"I'm fine, darling." Darling? "There's no need to worry about me. After all, I'm in good hands." She winked at Drake, who laughed.

"I think she's got Mrs. Ashcroft's personality now. Claire, do you think you could give us a little of your old personality? I'd like to make sure you can still access it if you need to."

She thought about it for a long time. "I... yes, I can do that. I'm being Claire again. God, it's weirder than I thought! I can feel both of them in me, trying to talk and move. I have to work really hard to make sure I make the Claire responses or else it could go either way." She smiled warmly. "Life is strange, isn't it? I've worked so hard to get where I am and now I'm going to be someone else entirely. Even now I'm responding as Rachel simply because I can. I still think like Claire, but my manner can turn on a dime."

Sid and Steven burst out laughing and she turned to them angrily. "Boys! Now I must insist you behave yourselves. I'm taking quite a risk here, and I don't appreciate you tittering like a pair of schoolgirls."

This only sent them into further fits of laughter. Steven brought out his phone and began recording. "Fuck it, Claire, this is funny. You're gonna laugh at this later. You're acting just like her!"

Claire crossed her arms and scowled, an expression that looked alien on her new face. "Fuck you guys. It's not funny, it's my duty. Maybe we'll get Drake to upgrade your sense of humor, you stupid pricks."

"Oh come on, give us a little more Ashcroft! For the camera!"

She rolled her eyes, then flashed a half smile. "Don't you know it's rude to photograph a lady against her wishes?" She emphasized rude with a slight tilt of her head.

Drake coughed and the room fell silent again. "Claire, are you ready for more?"
