Chapter 4

perhaps your wife's younger sister Angela or your ex-girlfriend Rachel - or someone older?
Rebecca Reynolds, your 52 year-old mom
"...you're kidding me..."
Saunders and Kerry, the other doctor, exchanged glances at each other before the older doctor turned back to you. "I'm sorry, Mr. Reynolds, but it's true. About 30 minutes after you entered into the hospital, another ambulance brought in your mom, who apparently had been driving outside of the homesteads to the north where she crossed the lane and hit a tree. Apparently, she had tried to avoid hitting a child running into the road and collided headlong into the side. Her body was fine, physically, but the impact caused her head to slam into the wheel and almost immediately caused an aneurism."
You blinked a few times and looked back and forth between the two men. "Y-You mean.."
"With the two of you, well, we had your body that was mangled beyond physical hope and your mom, whose body was healthy and viable without a brain. Essentially, we had to try and save one of you by taking your brain, a sizeable portion to be exact, and transplanting it into your mom's head." Saunders tapped the portion of the skull right above the temple. "The incision was here, minimal scarring, almost unnoticeable at the moment, and should be gone in a few months."
Kerry gently motioned and when you nodded, he placed his fingers lightly along the area of the incision. "This is where the mark will be, though the amount of scarring is minimal, which is good. No one will know."
Except for me, you thought internally and shuddered as the voice inside your own head was not your own. "S-So what happens now...?"
"Legally, to avoid the issues that surround such a controversial procedure and the likely firestorm that comes from it, Steve Meadows has been declared dead while Rebecca Reynolds suffered a head injury from the accident but is otherwise expected to make a full recovery." Kerry looked at Saunders. "It'll be easier in the long run for you to accept that this happened, especially given the circumstances otherwise."
You blinked at the realization that you would, for the rest of your natural life, be living as your mom, the woman that gave birth to you, fed you, raised you, and then was enjoying playing with her grandkids from your brother's marriage. The very body that you came out of was now your own body. "I'll be..."
"We've talked with your sister, Jordan, about it. She had to make the difficult choice to sign off on the procedure."
You looked down at your hands and then back at Saunders. "A-And my dad?"
"He didn't know, he's out of the country at the moment on a business trip. We figured that outside of you and Jordan, no one else should know." He spent the next few minutes going over the terms of the non-disclosure agreement and you carefully followed before looking back at them. "Try to get some sleep. I'll let her know you're awake and would like to see her." You nodded slowly in gratitude as Kerry reached over and injected the sedative into the IV. Within a few minutes, you were out.

The Ultimate Transplant
Someone you know is given a new body & life
PLEASE ADD CHAPTERS! A close friend or family member is horribly injured in an accident. As they lay dying in the emergency room, another patient dies of a brain aneurysm. Both of them are organ donors, so a surgeon decides it's the perfect opportunity for him to try an experimental surgery. He transplants the victim's higher brain (the cerebellum) to the donor's body in an attempt to 'save' a life. Amazingly it works. But the surgery was not approved so the hospital convinces the families to keep quiet, arguing that revealing this operation to the public would bring never-ending media attention to all involved. That means that the patient will have to publicly assume the identity of the donor. What will this mean to your friends and family? Who else will you tell? Although you will spend a lot of time and effort giving support, how will all this alter your relationship to the patient? And how will he or she adapt to a complete change of body and identity? Many transformation stories focus on the change or victim, so I thought it would be interesting to instead have the POV be someone who sees the change from the outside. Writers feel free to explore a change in age, gender, class or ethnicity - and the repercussions that change would have on the main character (and others).
