Chapter 20 by Ebanu8 Ebanu8

Meanwhile...?

The Adventures of Eothai

A/N: It's been a long while, and I'm back. Pardon the wait.

Four months earlier...

Gohanyama High's Archery Club dominated the Regional Archery Competition attended by over a dozen schools; ever since Eothai stole the role of Club President from his ill-fated predecessor, the High Elf was hard at work remolding the club from the ground up.

His godly talent with the bow made the former president Koide Misao willingly relinquish his role to Eothai, who reluctantly took up the mantle and began an effort to attract new recruits to their undermanned club - staffed by only Misao and Eothai.

Misao made every effort to attract new talent himself before Eothai's arrival, but suffice to say, his attitude was a huge detriment to his own efforts.

For one, he was incredibly obnoxious in every single interaction with both his classmates and prospective club members where archery was concerned.

"The bow is one of the first weapons ever devised by man to hunt for meat! It is a gift from the gods themselves! I can't understand why people mock archery as a sport!"

His high-handed attitude and his head being in the clouds drove off practically every club member, and as a result, he was now faced with the reality of his club being possibly disbanded. Furthermore, while Misao himself was a highly skilled archer, his set standards were impossibly high and unrealistic. Hence why when Eothai defeated him, his pride and ego were shattered to pieces, and he was lurking in a corner sulking gloomily.

Eothai sighed at Misao's depression.

"You do realise your actions don't fit a club leader," He pointed out.

Sobbing crocodile tears, Misao half-heartedly answered, "I don't need you to point that out, damnit..."

With Eothai now taking control, he drew upon his own experience soliciting recruits for his own armies and pasted posters on the school bulletin board, though whether there would be any takers given past history remained to be seen.

"Is there anyone else you feel might be interested in archery, Misao?" Asked Eothai.

"...I do know a few, but I think I ended up driving them away..." Misao muttered softly.

"Would they be willing to join again, say if they were suitably convinced?" Eothai asked again.

Misao shook his head wordlessly.

Eothai sighed in disappointment, "A pity, but we all have to face the consequences of our actions."

Misao's crocodile tears worsened, and Eothai handed him a packet drink out of pity.

"Here, some melon milk," He said.

Misao drank it, and he let out a sigh of appreciation at the sweet taste on his tongue.

"I love melon milk, I want more..." He muttered.

Misao had a terrible habit of binging on melon milk when feeling depressed, leading to him frequently burning a hole in his wallet during such terrible moods. Eothai could easily conjure more money with magic, but Misao did not need to know that.

Just then, the classroom door opened, and in strode two faces. One was Tamura Heiji, President of the Drama Club, and accompanying him was another girl neither had seen before, a buxom beauty with an athlete's physique, her arm muscles particularly pronounced.

"Konichiwa, Misao-san," Heiji greeted cheerfully.

"Konichiwa," Misao greeted back, swallowing at the sight of the beautiful schoolgirl before them.

"Pardon my intrusion, but she wants to join the archery club," Said Heiji, causing Misao to instantly brighten up with joy.

"Truly!?" Misao exclaimed, causing the girl to jump in shock.

Eothai harrumphed loudly, and Misao apologised as he composed himself.

"Hajimemashite, I am Otake Youko," The schoolgirl greeted with a bow, "Please let me join the archery club."

"Of course, any new member is welcome," Eothai greeted with a charming smile, causing Youko to blush, "May I ask if you have any experience in archery, Youko-san?"

"Yes, I do," Said Youko, "I was in my previous school's archery club before I transferred here."

"I see," Eothai nodded, "Are you willing to start club activities now?"

"Yes, if you will have me," Youko said enthusiastically, her eyes burning with fire.

"Excellent," Said Eothai as he passed Youko a form, "Please sign this form and we'll handle the rest."

"Eh, aren't you the club president, Misao-kun?" Asked Heiji.

"I was, then I realised I didn't make the cut and decided to pass the mantle to Eothai-kun here," Misao shrugged.

"Well, not to rub salt in the wound, but..."

"I know, I know," Misao nodded, before flashing Youko a smile of his own, "I might be a little on the obnoxious side, just to warn you, Youko-chan. Good to have you here."

Youko felt a sweatdrop on her forehead at the dullard smile Misao flashed her.

How is Youko's archery talent?
