"So what was the point of I'm not guaranteed to get off again?" Kazuma asked, back in his cell for the time being until a final decision was reached.

"Well, you may well be able to appease that lord," Ria noted, floating in a cross legged position. "Smart move offering to settle by the way. Think of it this way though: this Lord Alderp guy is already immensely unpopular. And while there are some nasty rumors about you, you're mostly liked by Axel Town for what you've been able to accomplish. You're a hero with a few questionable qualities at worst to them. Putting you on trial will only make him more unpopular. And if he sentences you to death in a clearly rigged trial, that's going to run a serious risk of sparking an open rebellion. Getting the prosecutor on your side ahead of time only stacks that particular deck in your favor, he'd have to be more blatant about twisting the truth if she half asses her job."

"Won't be much comfort to start a rebellion if I'm already dead though," Kazuma deadpanned.

"Assuming it comes to that," Ria shrugged. "This guy might be a jerk, so wouldn't let you off out of the goodness of his heart, but that doesn't mean he's stupid, so he might, albeit begrudgingly, do the smart thing and try to appear magnanimous instead."

Unfortunately, that was the moment Sena chose to return, and looking rather miffed about it, said to Kazuma, "Lord Alderp has insisted we go to trial, despite my telling him he doesn't have much of a case. As such, I am under orders to go through with prosecuting you. I suggest you think about your defense, for the trial will be held tomorrow."

'...way to tempt fate Ria,' Kazuma thought, and once Sena had left, turned to chew her out, but paused as he saw her already pouting and wearing what looked like a stereotypical "dunce" cap, only, instead of saying "dunce," it read, "I just pulled an Aqua." "...nope, not even going to ask where you got that," he decided.

"Well, there's always the option of fighting your way out after getting the sentence, and it's a public trial, so odds are, you'll have more people on your side than not," Ria replied. "Viva la revolution!"

"I'd have much preferred a less troublesome way out of this, thank you very much!" Kazuma gnashed his teeth. He took back his relief that no one was home when the Coronanite was sent to that manor... Even if it still got him in hot water, at least he'd have had the satisfaction of taking this bastard down with him!
