Chapter 15 by Gatsha Gatsha

What's next?

With Chihiro's victory, Celestia changes plans.

Chihiro was mostly ignoring the opponent he'd just defeated as she tried to process what had just happened. Instead, he was taking a look through what he'd just earned. On top of that, there was another notification for him. When he tapped that one, he read there was even more coming to him.

The next order of business was supposed to be to look at new purchases. However, before he that, he realized that Celestia had returned to her feet. Surprisingly, considering she'd just shown him such a humiliating expression, had been soundly defeated, and was about to endure a penalty, she was wearing her usual calm smile. However, it didn't take a long look to see that facade of hers was stretched to the limit. She clapped her hands sharply. "Hmm... Very good, Chihiro. Very good. It's time to admit I misjudged you severely. For that, I apologize. I'll be taking my second swimsuit and allowing you the privilege of wearing my first."

"Huh?" Chihiro blinked. "But what about our contest? The swimsuit I picked for you?"

Celestia had turned to the rack to begin hunting down the other designer swimsuit that ought to be hanging there. When she responded, she spoke without turning her head. "That was a prize to be earned in a fair contest. Your victory was earned under unfair terms. You can hardly deny that."

"Unfair? I mean..." Chihiro averted his eyes, shuffling uncomfortably. "I don't know why you decided to, um, make that face and that choice... but we both agreed you did! H-How can you call yourself the Ultimate Gambler if you don't honor your bet?"

When Celestia turned her head back to him, she had a serious frown and wide eyes. When Chihiro looked more closely, he realized she'd been grinding her teeth in frustration. "I. Did. Not. Lose. Let us make that clear before we proceed. No, as I said: I misjudged you. I took you for a pitiable novice when I should have seen you as the sly little shrew you are. You're no longer a mystery to me."

She took another step towards Chihiro, slowly but steadily advancing and driving him towards a wall. "It's funny. Ever since we got here, I've been asking myself: why would a programmer go through so much work to make a lifelike simulation for all of their classmates with such limited perks for herself? If it was me, I'd program myself a castle, fully staffed with the finest servants. What does she gain by holding back? That initially made me suspicious, but you do have a way of making people lower their guard, don't you? Well, now I understand you fully. You programmed yourself special perks in this simulation. You gave yourself godlike powers for the express purpose of fulfilling twisted, hidden fantasies you could never in the real world. Of course, you can't use them in front of multiple people. You'll use them on people like me, people you can get isolated with no other witnesses. Then, you'll humiliate us to your heart's content. Finally, you return to the others with your rotten heart full and your pathetic, mewling persona restored. If I tell others I was **** to debase myself and lose a gamble because of your programming, who would believe a liar like me over sweet, innocent little Chihiro?"

By this point, the gambler had walked the programmer all the way to the back wall of the hut, no longer having anywhere to retreat. Celestia continued glaring straight into his eyes as though seeing his brain still had some room to move back. "I'm no weakling you can push around, Chihiro, even if you're a god here. You can't beat me if I don't join you in a competition, can you? So we're done competing. And, as a mercy, I'm willing to forget this whole thing happened. We'll both leave, going our separate ways, and I won't tell anyone that you're having a bit of extra fun at their expense. But if you do trouble me further, I intend to tell them everything. Trust me when I say I can be very convincing. Do we have a deal?"

Chihiro's back was to the wall, literally and figuratively. If he let Celestia leave here, he thought the odds were pretty low that she'd really swallow her pride and leave him alone. In terms of what he had to use against her, there was only the weird face effect, which would probably just infuriate her more, and the "tell you what she's really thinking" bonus. There didn't seem to be much point in that, since Celestia had spoken her mind plainly, but to try it out, Chihiro activated his new effect while he hurriedly scanned the list of purchases he could make for something to use against Celestia.

As soon as Chihiro pressed the app button to activate the command effect, Celestia continued speaking in the same tone, as though the words spilling out of her mouth were a continuation of that threat. "In spite of the unknown godlike powers I believe you hold in this world, I've noticed that you cower away from me when I attempt to intimidate you. I don't understand the scope of what you're capable of, and I'm terrified you can actually **** me into that ridiculous pose without end, or do something much worse. This is my last ditch bluff to regain control of the situation so I can get out of here and come up with some kind of plan, or, perhaps, simply try and avoid you for the rest of the vacation."

"Well, that makes sense," Chihiro thought. As expected, Celestia was still giving him a **** glare, keeping up a convincing poker face with no awareness that she'd just given away the game. Chihiro did feel sorry for her... "But if I let her leave like this, there's a good chance she'll decide to take action later. I might be able to scare her into submission if I **** her to keep making the face, but that... feels kinda mean. Isn't there some purchase I can use to stop her?"

Looking through the list, he reached a decision.
