Do you get away?

Yes

Chapter 5 by Not_a_priority

The chase is nerve racking. The hunt, as prey, from your perspective, is something you've never experienced.

Is this how the rabbits feel?

Do the deer you hunt have this same fear?

You don't dare look behind you, they're still there, no need to check. You can feel their claws scraping at your neck.

Fear.

Nothing else.

Two legs won't help in running from these brutes, you realise. The problem is, is you've never shifted while on the middle of running.

Well, no time like the present. You tell yourself, and with a mighty leap, you feel your jaw break and bones snap. Everything happens at once.

Teeth pop from your mouth and your vision becomes blurry, from somewhere in your body something folds and snaps. Was that supposed to happen? You can't remember, but you keep running on instinct, your body has never hurt this much.

Miraculously, you make it.

Your front paws slam into the ground, your hind legs follow, your tail points straight back, for balance.

Now you can truly run. And you do.

This is your forest. You know it like the back of your ha-, well paw.

Soon their snarls and bites and howls are falling far behind. You don't stop.
