The next morning...
What is happening today anyway?
I wake up on Saturday to find sunshine already pouring in through the windows of my room. I look over to find that Rose is peacefully asleep beside me. I take a moment to admire how cute she looks before checking the time. Turns out, it's almost noon already. Whoops. Guess I slept in. But to be fair, it's the weekend. It's not like I have that much planned for today.
Actually, what is the agenda today? After giving it some thought, I realize that the only solid plan I have is to go to Katia's place for her stream. Is that really it? I think so. Huh. I suppose that means I'm free to do whatever for the rest of the day. Katia's stream still isn't for a number of hours, so I'll have to come up with something to do until then.
I do my best not to disturb Rose as I get ready for the day. Once I'm done, I head out and hear a surprising noise. It sounds like Rose and I weren't the only ones to sleep in. Shockingly, after checking each bedroom door, it turns out that Mom is the late riser. That's a first. At least for her human self. Liz did do a fair amount of sleeping in. As for Mom, she probably doesn't know what to do with herself after getting fired. I still feel bad about that. I decide to check again for her fourth attribute, but there's still no sign of it, so I'm once again **** to leave it be for now.
After saying good morning to Michelle and Julia, who are actually up, I decide to do what I always do when I don't have any plans: text Violet. If there's one person who can always come up with something fun to do, it's her. I'm sure she's been itching to do more stuff with her final attribute. It's also been a bit since I've seen Bianca, so that could be nice bonus too. I send her a message asking if she wants to hang out and wait for a response.
However, something strange happens. That is to say, nothing happens. I don't get any text back. That's weird... Violet is always pretty quick when it comes to responding to texts. In fact, she's probably the most punctual texter in my contacts. Okay, now that I think about it, that award would definitely go to Helen. That woman is scary with how immediately she responds. But still, Violet doesn't normally take this long. Maybe she's still asleep? A lot of people seem to be sleeping in today, myself included.
After giving it a few more minutes, I decide to give up and try someone else. Violet can always get back to me later. I scroll through my contacts to see who I could spend some time with. After a few swipes, a name I didn't expect to see catches my attention: Amy Turner. I have Amy's number? Since when? Maybe we worked on a group project or something back in high school? Man, I really didn't pay any attention to her back then, did I? Well, I certainly pay attention to her now. Perhaps I should make up for lost time. I did say I was looking for someone I haven't seen in a while.
Matt: Hey, Amy! How are you? I was wondering what you were up to today and if you were free to hang out.
Not exactly the most smoothest text ever sent, but sometimes the simplest approach is the most effective. It really doesn't take that long before I hear back from her.
Amy: Would you look at that. If it isn't the stud himself. I was starting to worry I might never hear from you again...
Has it really been that long? Yikes. Guess I'm still not great at giving Amy attention...
Amy: I was actually thinking about heading out for a bite to eat. You're welcome to tag along it you like. Though don't be surprised if I get hungry for something else if you do...
Real subtle, Amy. Though Amy doesn't care much for subtlety anymore in general, does she? Giving the idea some consideration, getting lunch with her doesn't sound like a bad plan. I so frequently see her in the gym that it could be interesting to interact with her in a more relaxed environment. I accept Amy's invitation and she sends me the address of where she's headed. Interestingly, she doesn't ask for my opinion or if I'm fine with eating there. She just tells me that's where she's going and that I can meet her there if I want to. What a power move.
Anyway, I should probably head out and start making my way to the address Amy sent me. Wouldn't want to be late. I say a quick goodbye to my sisters before leaving. A hop, skip, and a bus ride later, and I find myself outside a restaurant called The Chophouse Grill. Bit of a redundant name, if you ask, but whatever. As I get closer, I notice Amy standing outside the building, leaning against a wall. Her posture just exudes confidence. Just looking at her, I can tell she's come a long way from the meek, unremarkable girl I once knew.
"Hey, Amy. I hope you weren't waiting long," I greet her.
"Nah, you're fine. I've only been here for a few minutes. In fact, you're lucky I waited at all. I'm starving, so I wasn't planning on standing around for much longer. Still, I am glad you're here," Amy assures me.
"That's good to hear. I... think. I'm glad we're getting a chance to hang out somewhere new. Though, I was surprised to hear that you weren't at the gym."
Amy lets out a hardy laugh, something that seems to be the new standard for her whenever she's amused by something. I have to say, in a weird way, it's endearing to see her so clearly voice her humored.
"You don't think I spend all my time working out at the gym, do you? I do still need to eat, after all, not to mention that there are other things I enjoy doing. If you must know, I got up early to go on a morning run, but I'm planning to take it relatively easy for the rest of the day," Amy explains.
In retrospect, it was dumb of me to assume that Amy would be in the gym all day, everyday. I guess even a gym rat doesn't exercise 24/7.
"Come on," Amy continues. "We can continue this conversation after I get some food in front of me. Let's go inside before the place gets too busy."
Amy walks over to the door and holds it open for me. What a gentleman. The two of us make our way inside and find a table. Once we do, a thought occurs to me.
"Hey, do you mind if I run to restroom real quick?" I ask Amy.
"Fine by me, but you better hurry up. Don't expect me to wait to order something," Amy jokes.
"I would never," I respond with a smirk.
I quickly make my way over to the restroom before looking back at Amy, who has already turned her attention to the menu. I figured this would probably be a good opportunity to check Amy with the remote. Like she said, we beat the lunch rush, so there aren't too many people here yet, which means if I want to use the remote on her, now would be the time to do so. I pull it out, aim it at her, and lock-on.
- SELECTED TARGET: AMELIA TURNER -
New Attribute Available. Press red button to claim.
Ooh, that's exciting. And if my count is correct, Amy is already at three, meaning that she's about the join the level four attribute club. I can only imagine what kind of crazy nonsense she'll end up with. Based on previous experience, it's probably safe to assume it will be something pretty impressive. Actually, what am I saying? I don't have to imagine or assume anything. I'm just one button push away from seeing it for real.
Alright, Amy. Let's see what we're working with...
What's Amy's fourth attribute?
