A Stitch in Time

"Okay," Gwen said instantly on gaurd and looking around. "I don't know this world either. What freaky weird earth is this one. Alien invaders? Shapeshifters? Demonic possessions?"

"It kinda looks normal," said Jubilee looking around. "But it's sometimes hard to tell..."

Walt chuckled. "Actually it is normal. I pretty much guarantee it and it probably wasn't messed with because-"

"Oh cool!" Some kid said pointing to his buddy. "Look... cosplayers!"

The other kid glanced up then back down at his phone. "Lame. It's embaressing to be "that into it"... come on let's go. Besides there's hotter ones on the net. Those don't look slutty enough."

Jubilee looked pissed. "Not slutty enough? Of course not! I'm not Boom-Boom! What the fu-"

Walt sighed. "Yup. Perfectly normal. That's Earth-1218 for you." He tried to ignore the very Logan like language coming out of Jubilee's mouth. She was good around the kid but her voice carried. Shogo would be lucky if he didn't grow up with a potty mouth. "Come on. Let's try to blend in a bit."

Gwen blinked. "What's that supposed to mean?" She asked as they followed Walt.

Walt chuckled. "It's the most boring world in Marvel. No mutants, no Spider-folks, no aliens, powers, sentient robots, hulks, etcetera etcetera etcetera. Just normal people in a normal boring world... because it's "real". Which makes it almost totally useless for us except it's a good place to get stuff and not have to worry about weird craziness."

Jubilee laughed. "That's so... like you to sidestep a problem that way! So what are we getting?"

Walt nodded. "Costumes actually. We need to blend into some of the other worlds later. We probably could have done this in 616 but yeah, I don't want any weirdness like the place getting robbed or a mystic portal opening or finding out it's a evil organizations front."

Gwen had put her hood up on her sweatshirt. Jubilee had removed her Yellow coat and traded it for a leather Jacket Walt had pulled out of his backpack. She smiled it was the one he'd worn the otherday. It was big but it smelled a little like him and that made her smile.

"So what kind of costumes?" Gwen asked just as they arrived at a store that Walt pointed at. He was grinning as Gwen read the sign. "Historical Emporium - Striving for 100% historical accuracy since 1987?"

Jubilee laughed. "Are we getting old timey disguises? Wicked! I mean uh, *ahem* This'll be the bees knees, kid!" She took Gwen's arm laughing. "You'll see. You got moxie, doll!"

Gwen rolled her eyes but Walt nodded grinning. "Yay and verily! We must adorn ourselves in vestments of the days of yore! Come Lady Jubilation and Lady Gwendolyn. Prithee allow me the honor to be thine escort on this errand?" He bowed sweeping his hat off with a flourish as he opened the door for them.

Jubilee laughed and Gwen couldn't help giggling. "Alright fine. I suppose we'd better." She grabbed his arm. "Come on, Black Knight!"

They had fun trying on various outfits and accessories. Everything from the 1970s to Elizabethtan era fashions and picked out several costumes and peices to fit a variety of times.

"It's so fun," Jubilee laughed having a good time and enjoying herself.

Gwen nodded but said, "It's so weird though. The further back we go the less we "fit in" but the more you do, Walt." She shook her head. "You really are a man out of time! Look at you!"

Walt looked at himself in the mirror and shrugged. "Actually this is a slightly less fancy version of what I wore a mon- no, wait that was two or three days ago my time. Urgh. Time displacement is tricky." He started rubbing his temples.

Jubilee laughed in her 1600's corset and gown. "Well I think you look like a dashing gunslinger... no... a lawman! Here." She tossed him a silver star and he grinned and pinned it on. "Yeah that looks good!" She looked at Gwen who'd decided to dress up in a suit as well as pick out a dress for the 1920s. "Gwen try this hat!"

Gwen turned and the hat hit her in the nose. "What the-?" She blinked.

Jubilee giggled. "Sorry. I thought you'd catch that!"

Gwen rubbed her nose but her eyes widened. She looked at Walt and he patted the air. "Whoa easy! That's actually normal for here. Don't freak out. My fault I should have warned you."

Gwen nodded and took a deep breath while Jubilee looked confused. "I don't get it. What's the problem?"

"No powers on this earth. Period" Walt explained. "You guys still have them but they don't work here. No ones will. You've got all your normal natural abilities and talents but-"

Jubilee held up her hand. "No sparks... nothing. Oh, I see. I get it. That's what you meant by a "boring" world, isn't it?"

Walt nodded. "Yep. There's not much amazing, extraordinary, fantastic or uncanny here. You could bring someone like Thor here and he'd just be a strong fellah. Chuck couldn't read minds, Magneto couldn't make a penny move let alone a needle without physically picking them up or actually pulling out a magnet to use."

Gwen nodded. "Well that's not so bad." She tried the hat on and nodded. It looked good. "We get them back when we leave?"

Walt nodded. "Yup. They're just suppressed or inactive while here. It's a mundane sort of world. There are only a few of them and no one really bothers with them for exactly that reason. The special thing about this world is, well... nothing other than it's connected to the others."

"Crazy," Gwen said. "I wonder what the Gwen Stacy of this world is like?"

Walt thought about that. He couldn't remember if Gwenpool came from 1218 or one of the adjacent others... and it might be best for the girls not to contemplate it too much. That's how things were in alternative realities sometimes.

Walt smiled. "I dunno... but I hope she's living a happy peaceful life."

Gwen smiled. "I hope so too." Jubilee nodded smiling as well.

Walt looked at the two lovely ladies. "I think that's enough... come on. Let's get out of here."

"Ooohhh, actually..." Jubilee said.

Walt chuckled. "Let me guess. You want more?"

She nodded and grabbed Gwen's arm. "Is that okay? Pleaseee?" Jubilee batted her eyes comically making both Walt and Gwen laugh.

Walt sighed but he was smiling so they'd know he was serious too. "Fiiineee... try not to buy out the whole store, okay? I'll go bring up what we're already getting. Maybe step outside for a moment."

"Thank yooouuu!" Jubilee called out as he walked away.

Gwen looked at her. "You want even more stuff?"

Jubilee had stopped playing around and looked serious. "Nope... well kinda. I wanted to talk you. Walt's birthday's coming up."

Gwen blinked in surprise. "Oh! I didn't know that..."

Jubilee nodded. "Technically it is and it isn't. In his world it's a little ways away but here because of the time distortion it's just a few days away! I was tginking it'd be nice to do something for him!" She pulled a classic style dress off the rack. "What do you think of this? Happy birthdaaay! Mister presideeent! Happy birthday tooo yooouuu!"

Gwen laughed. "You're going to want to work on your singing... but he'll like anything you get him Jubes!"

Jubilee laughed too but nodded and asked, "You too, Gwen... do you want to join me?" She held out another classic starlet dress to Gwen.

Gwen blushed. "Uhh... I-I dunno... I don't have the... "balcony" for that one. Besides this is your thing... I don't want to intrude-"

Jubilee had literally pinched her lips shut. "Gwen... first this dress is about the legs and you got that to spare... and second don't lie to me, ok? I'm not a telepath or an empath or anything like that... but even I can tell how you both feel about each other. There's no Symbiote or anything else in this world... just you and me right now. You like Walt... and I know he likes you."

Gwen swallowed as Jubilee let go of her mouth. She was asking for her to be honest with her... and herself. She licked her lips and nodded. "... yes..."

Jubilee inhaled and nodded too. "Ok," she said and then she smiled and hugged Gwen. "Ok. That's good... a good start. Do you maybe want to help me plan something out for his birthday? I'm thinking just a small party."

Gwen smiled and hugged her back. Just like that Jubilee, who obviously loved Walt a lot and known him longer than Gwen, had accepted her and her feelings. Gwen wiped at her eyes smiling. She was special. A good person with a huge heart! Just like... "Yeah... let's have a party! Thank you, Jubes."

Jubilee shook her head letting go of Gwen with a wink. "I didn't do anything! Come on... we got a party plan!" She grinned adding, "and other stuff to discuss!"
