The reason we can't keep permanent slaves is because millennia back, a bunch of us went around to other worlds and taking important people out of them, and caused a huge amount of trouble. Our rulers were displeased, and imposed some ironclad rules to prevent repeats.

"As for why I waited, there are two reasons. And second, I needed her under your sway first. Mortal body or not, she is still a goddess capable of seeing me and potentially complicating things," Ria finished.
