The security scanner

As soon as she went through the door, she encountered the security scanner. It was quite an elaborate one, not like any standard scanner she'd ever seen. Now Valerie understood why she was being sent in nearly naked. "Lang must be very paranoid," she thought to herself. She waited in line for her turn to pass through the scanner. When she finally got there, a big mountain of a man greeted her. "This must be Luther." She looked him up and down. She knew if she were to get into a fight with him chances are she would lose.

"Purse please," the mountain smiled at her politely. "Then step through the scanner." She handed him her purse and took note of how it looked like a wallet in his massive hand. Then she moved through the scanner and into the grand reception room where people mingled awaiting their host to make his appearance.

"You are clean," said the mountain as he handed her back her purse. "Enjoy the evening."

"Thank you," she smiled at him as she took her purse. "May your evening be enjoyable as well."

"Thank you," he nodded. "You are the first to wish me that. Perhaps we will meet again."

"Perhaps. One never knows what might happen. Especially at social functions such as these." Valerie knew it was better to make friends with someone of Luther's stature as quickly as possible. "You're very large, but also very handsome. I wouldn't mind getting to know you better."

"That would depend on the boss. He usually picks out a dozen or so girls to spend the evening with. Should he pick you, I would be out of luck."

She smiled at him again. "Well, let's hope luck is on your side."

He laughed and gave her a gentle, playful swat on the ass. "Go enjoy yourself. Maybe I will be lucky."

With that being said, she moved off into the crowd to mingle with the other guests until Lang's arrival. She was glad the tiny little transceiver in her earrings went unnoticed by the scanner. At least she would be able to keep in touch with Iris in case anything happened.
