Something is bothering Rebeccah

After work, Rebeccah doesn't seem her usual self. She isn't as cheerful as she usally is, and she seems to be preoccupied, frequently checking her phone. You want to give her space, but your concern wins out.

"Something seems to be bothering you," you venture.

She seems startled by your question and then a guilty look passes over her face.

"It's nothing, really," she says. "It's just that Brad is acting weird after our date. I sent him a text, thanking him for taking me out, and it took him forever to answer and he just said 'You bet' with a thumbs-up. Then at work, he hardly acknowledges me. I feel like I did something wrong."

Hearing her talk like this about Brad feels like a stab in the heart. She sounds like she has a crush on him and she's supposed to be your fiance. You know you should confront her right now before it goes any further, but that fills you with terror. What if it backfires and she calls your bluff? It's safer to just be supportive and wait for whatever these feelings she has for Brad to blow over. You are being a simp and it makes you cringe.

"If you ask me, he's being foolish," you say. "He was pretty lucky you agreed to go out with him in the first place."

"That's really sweet of you to say," she says, giving you a wan smile.

"Have you tried talking to him?" you find yourself asking, and then you wonder why; Shouldn't you be glad Brad is giving your fiance the cold shoulder?

"I don't want to come across as needy," she says, nervously biting her lip.

"Sometimes it's best to just ask, rather than guess what someone is thinking," you suggest.

She considers for a moment.

"Maybe you're right," she says. "I think I'll text him and just ask if everything is okay after our date."

She types on her phone, and then soon after it chimes. Her face goes a little white.

"He just said 'We need to talk. Come into my office tomorrow morning.'," she says. "I think I just made a big mistake."

"Try not to read too much into it," you say, feeling guilty for suggesting she text him. "In any case, you will find out what's going on tomorrow."

"You're right," she says, giving you a hug. "Thank you for being so supportive and understanding."

For the rest of the evening, though, she is even more pensive.
