Chapter 17

Hungry?
Sure.
Oz, Juan and the kids were all in the backyard sitting on chairs around a large table under a parasol. They were enjoying cold lemonade while looking at the scenery of the farm.
“So Juan how do you like the work here so far?” said Oz while taking a sip of the sour-sweet juice. Juan was expecting the question and said:
“Oh, very, very nice! I want do more, but everything done.” And he ended with a slightly disappointed tone.
“Don’t worry about that. I was planning to make another cuck shed” Oz looked at Juan who made a bit of a sour face, not because of the lemonade he was drinking, so he changed his wording to make himself understood “I mean a chicken shed. There are too many chicken in one of the sheds and with a second one I can raise more and sell off eggs. Eggs have started fetching a good price lately.”
“Ah, sí.” Juan responded with a nod. He understood most of what was said so he began to think about construction which he had some experience with, but also saw a more trivial problem which may rise up later on:
“But master Oz, if two rooster, then they fight.” He voiced his concern about having multiple roosters.
“Oh, don’t worry about that, my friend. The other rooster just has to sleep in a different spot… And we will fence off the other shed so the other rooster can’t get in.” Oz said while having found a solution to his own situation at hand and the chicken shed.
He thought about how he could make Juan a bit busier and get farther away from his wife, but he finally managed to speak it out loudly. He had also previously considered stepping up his chicken game.
“Sleep?” Said Juan in a questioning manner, but also sunk back again into deep thoughts, then continued with a faint smile: “Ah, yes, of course, master Oz!” he responded as if he had fully understood what Oz meant.
The children around them seemed bored, but managed to kill some free-time by playing tag or hide and seek. Once they all came to drink from the lemonade, Juan told them that they will all go shopping for clothes later. The children were somewhat happy, as they only had a couple of things to wear. Their joy was only overshadowed by the thought that they wouldn’t get any toys in the near future if they got new clothes now.
Margarita on the other hand was already picturing all the nice clothes she might get her hands on in this area. Back at home everything looked the same to her and despite being so young, she already had a sense for clothing and liked to go shopping, although rarely, with her dad or mother.
“I’m glad you took the news so nicely. Don’t worry, we’ll get you something cool and nice to wear. But leave some budget for your parents and for their underwear.” And Oz laughed to which they too, to appear friendly and good-willed, began to laugh, despite not fully grasping what Oz meant.
In the meantime, Maria was still cooking away in the kitchen. She had found some chicken breast in the freezer and tried to make some fried rice with it. She found everything from the veggies to the rice, but she had not found some of the spices she needed. She was missing ‘sazón’ which she could have mixed from some of the spices available but it still needed the red color and strong taste of paprika. She looked out of the window and saw that Juan and Oz were talking and sitting around with the children, so she briefly went outside and waved slowly at Oz. She was a bit hesitant about doing this, but she wanted to make the dish taste well, so it wouldn’t cause a disappointment.
Does the husband approve?
