What's next?
Sunday Pt 10
"Almost there."
Pyrrha looked at Walt questioningly then with growing realization. "Oh!"
Walt raised an eyebrow. "Is that ok?"
Pyrrha smiled. "Actually it's better than okay! It's very sweet of you to give me more again!"
Walt grinned happy that she remembered and that she approved. "It's always been on my mind since then. The weather was just right and I thought this way we could have our date, relax after the craziness of the day and be alone together."
Pyrrha nodded and leaned against him. "I think it's perfect, Walter."
She hadn't been sure what he was planning when they didn't leave the property and instead drove out along the back road. But as the destination drew nearer and the way became a bit recognizable she got her hopes up... and she was right.
Walt pulled the truck of to the side slowly and into a large clear space. After a short while he stopped the truck and got out grabbing a couple blankets and opening her door for her.
Pyrrha grinned seeing they were at the same place and possibly even the same spot as before so many nights ago. She had wondered if ot was just a passing moment then but it had been something special for the both of them. "Here, let me help with the blanket!"
Walt smiled and nodded and together they spread it out on the ground. "I grabbed some snack stuff and drinks and threw them in the cooler and the telescope if you want me to bring them out and set it up?"
Pyrrha smiled and shook her head. "Grab the cooler but leave the telescope for another time. I want to look at the stars the same way as we did then!" She chuckled. "I suppose we didn't realize it at the time but technically I think-"
"That was our first "date"!" They both said and then laughed. They kissed delighted that they both thought and felt the same way.
Slowly they parted and Walt said, "alright telescope next time. Tonight... drink, dancing, the stars and you, my love."
"Hurry back," she told him and she laughed as he nodded and practically skipped towards the truck.
She pulled out her phone. "Friday?"
(("Yes, Pyrrha?"))
"Could you play us some music, please?" She asked as Walt eeturned with the cooler and some wine glasses.
(("Of course, Pyrrha. It would be my pleasure."))
Pyrrha shook her head at Walt saying, "In a moment" and he set the glasses down. There's the sound of a guitar and as it plays the first few notes and they both smile remembering that particular moment too! Walt pulls his phone out too setting it down then meets Pyrrha as they start dancing slowly to "Claudia's Theme".
"It seems Friday has picked a song for us," Walt said softly rocking her slowly.
Pyrrha nodded resting her head against him and fingering the sash at his waist. "It seems so... it's a good one." She looked up into his eyes. "I love you."
Walt stroked her cheek. "I love you," he said leaning in to kiss her. They stayed like that for awhile until the song ended and through a Mozzart clarinet concerto after.
Friday started playing Brad Hatfield- After Hours and Pyrrha slowly let go saying, "Thank you for this."
Walt smiled and started filling the glasses from the champagne bottle. "No, it's my pleasure! Thank you for agreeing to it. I know it was a long day..."
He handed her the glass and she nodded. "But it was a also a very good day too!"
Walt smiled and nodded holding up his glass. "It was and still is. To good days and happy nights?"
She clinked her glass to his. "Good days and happy nights," she agreed and they drank settling down on the blanket.
Walt nodded. "I'm afraid things are going to be very busy for me for awhile... I don't know what or how much free time I'll have. "
Pyrrha looked at him quizzically and realized asking, "The investigation? Do you think it had anything to do with today?"
Walt smirked and rolled his eyes as Friday played Louis Bacalov's The Grand Duel at that moment. "Possibly... and it might have jad nothing to do with us or me and been about Jimbo instead... or any of the Gardners really. Though past experience tells me it was Jimbo or myself or both. Our ill luck seems to multiply in ways feeding of each other . But even if it wasn't me this time, I need to get to the bottom of our troubles and sooner rather than later... which means I'll be diving deep into the RealDreams end of the investigation."
Pyrrha realized what he was saying. "You aren't sure how long it'll take or when you'll even have time to come home."
Walt nodded. "Time works funny in the different worlds but it's usually sped up. I could be gone a couple hours for you all but it'll be days for me or not. It's hard to say. Most lay folks don't know it but that's the biggest part of the job that requires the most skill and processing power. Figurimg out the "when". The good news is I'm going into ones I know well I can probably investigate them somewhat quickly... probably."
Pyrrha nods and then guesses, "and the bad news is there are a lot of them, isn't it?"
Walt nodded as Friday played Ashokan Farewell. "Cprrect. An awful lot of them and some are going to be much bigger to look for clues in." He sighed thinking about some in particular that would be extremely problematic to search. "I might have to get creative in a few of them... some have their own universe's, dimensions and alternative realities like a web that make things tricky."
(("Oh no. Please tell me you won't get too drastic in trying to search some of them, Boss?"))
Walt actually pursed his lips and didn't answer. Pyrrha looked at him and giggled.
(("Boss?"))
Walt sighed. "I promise not to "break" any of them. I don't want that anymore than the others... though we may have to play a bit rough with a few of them. I'm not spending years searching every inch of the multiversal ones... not when we can do it quicker and more efficiently to boot. We can call in some favors and, if we do things right, no one will know... plus I have a few suspicions on where to look. That'll narrow it down and speed things up in the ones we're looking into." He shook his head and refilled their glasses and started pulling out fruit, meats, cheeses and crackers. "But I don't want to think about that right now... that's tomorrow's problems."
Pyrrha nodded. "So it's a big job."
Walt nodded and started cutting them up making a plate for them to pick at. He paused to feed her a berry. "It is." He licked the way she licked his finger and smiled."I'm hoping you all will help look after the place and the others."
Pyrrha smiled and nodded and when he set down the plate she fed him a grape. "Of course," she said and he kissed her hand as he lay back and they both looked up at the stars, the Milky Way stretched before them.
"It's so... impressive, doesn't seem right," Pyrrha whispered. "I don't know..."
Walt smiled and said quietly, "It's certainly that. Awe inspiring... it's truly something that is awesome."
Pyrrha smiled and nodded. "Yes... awesome."
They watched in silence a while. Eventually Pyrrha started pointing at stars and Walt named them until he chuckled and told her to put her glasses on. Pyrrha was amazed as Walt fed her cheese and crackers and refilled their glasses.
"They all have names?" She asked.
Walt nodded. "Most everyone we know about. People have been studying it since before they could grasp the concept of it. Tracing paterns that represented figures called constellations. Using it to guide and navigate by. Srories and myths and legends for different ones and even the galaxy as a whole from our perspective."
"Which one is your favorite?" She asked as he handed her glass.
Walt smiled. "Honestly that's a tough one for many folks, there's so many and they're all excellent but my favorite has always been the "The Hanging Road". The path along which spirits travel to the afterlife. Themessengers carry messages back and forth from the Land of the Living to the Camp of the Dead."
Pyrrha smiled. "It does look like a road or path of sorts."
Walt nodded. "Many cultures see it that way or as a river, or spilled milk or grains."
Pyrrha looked at him. "And when you put your head and logic aside... is that how you see it still?"
Walt shook his head. "No... it is how I always see it. That may sound strange to rational people but those stars are actually quite literally forges. Inside them all the things that we know of that help make our perceptions of the universe solid and real are created in those atomic forges. The building blocks of all matter. The iron in the truck, the sand and earth below us, the air we are breathing right now and even you and I. We are all made out of those atomic particles... out of star stuff. And eventually we'll return there. Everything is cyclical. It looks like road from this perspective but we're actually in the middle of it. We're born, live and die on the road."
Pyrrha stared up at the night sky thinking about that. "That's true, I suppose... if it works that way... it's a very romantic and philosophical way of thinking about the universe!"
Walt smiled. "If you're interested take some 3S classes and lectures or Friday can recommend some books on the basics of astrophysics and different philosophies."
Pyrrha slowly grinned. She didn't know it but she was thinking like Blake had the otherday and realizing the amazing opportunity before her. "I can do that?"
Walt chuckledand nodded taking her hand as they stared up. "I think you can do anything you put your heart and mind too, Pyrrha."
Pyrrha squeezed his hand. "I like that... thank you. I'll seriously consider that."
Walt squeezed her hand back. "I hope you do. You're very welcome."
After awhile Walt felt Pyrrha turn his direction. "Walt... the wedding... and before when you put on the sash..."
Walt smiled and turned his head. "You're important to me Pyrrha and I love you. You belong to me, that's true, but I give myself to you... is that what you wanted to know?" He turned and reached out his other hand to wipe away a tear.
She shook her head. "I already knew... but it was what I wanted to hear... can we... stay out here for the night?"
She drew closer and he told her, "As you wish," before kissing her.
