With a panicked exclamation of “Mom!” Jack was quickly by Kelly’s side helping her back into her chair.‘Oh my god, what’s happening!’ he thought. “Mom are you ok?!” He asked slightly panicked.

“I think something’s wrong with my blood sugar. Too much coffee…or not enough, or something.” She muttered. “I feel so dizzy & kinda loopy!” Kelly chuckled. Jack frowned in worry.

“Don’t laugh! We need to get you to the hospital then!” Jack scolded. “Hold still!” He said and he made to move off. “I need to get my phone to call 9-1-1 since we don’t have a car & and I can’t carry you to the buss stop.” This sobered Kelly right up! But didn’t entirely kill her mysterious buzz.

“No!” She exclaimed sitting at attention in her chair. ‘We don’t have the money for the hospital let alone the E.R. or an ambulance ride! What money we do have is for Jack’s college fund!’ She thought. She shot up out of her chair and reached for her son. Kelly scrambled after Jack. Reaching him, she grabs hold on to him with both arms. “No!” She repeats. Jack is momentarily stunned. He’s never seen his mom move so fast before in his life. Seeing her opportunity Kelly declares brightly. “Look! I’m fine. See! I don’t need a doctor, Okay?” She steps back to look her son in the eyes. “Besides the money we’d need to spend to pay off an ER visit would come straight out of your college fund! Also! Also, I know you’re looking forward to going and I’m not going to ruin that for you or waste the effort we put in to making sure you could go!”she adds at the end. This snaps Jack back into focus.

“Mom, you need a doctor! You need to have a medical check-up!” Jack states emphatically “Besides you really ‘are’ sick if you think college means more to me than you do.”

Jack feels the college fund isn’t worth Kelly’s life. Kelly reiterates that she’s fine and giving up the college fund for some freak out of nowhere dizzy spell is not worth giving up Jack’s future. Kelly convinces Jack that she is fine. Jack finally let’s it go and agrees to help Kelly to her room to lie down. Kelly argues about doing the dishes. Jack agrees to do the dishes and make her a sandwich in case her blood sugar is too low. If she feels as bad as she did earlier, he will take her to hospital college fund be damned.
