Chapter One: Project Medeia

Several Months Earlier

"You are joking right?" Lily exclaimed in shock, her boss as well as several of her collegues were all looking towards her with hoping eyes. Her boss Miranda Garlick shook her head in negative response.

"Lily I'm sorry but you are our only candidate for the project", Miranda looked pleedingly at her employee, Lily looked down at the stack of parchments entitled 'Project Medeia'.

Project Medeia had been an experiment made by one Medeia Le Rouge during the 1820's, Medeia would have been declared a borderline Dark Lady during her time, her family had owned a large plot of land within the deserts of Africa. Wanting to test a theory and later reap the rewards she had kidnapped forty people from places in Europe Asia and Africa.

The plan had been simple, have them believe that they had all survived a world ending event and they were unable to leave the boundries of the land she owned and see what the results would become.

It had been a distater, at least at first, of the forty muggle taken only twenty five had survived the first year, with no type of policing or military the group had quickly desolved into fighting, trying to claim sections of land and the resourses Medeia had allowed, fights over women in the mens case and even minor disagreements would steamroll into out right fueds.

Medeia had obsereved undetected with glee, she would watch as the new tribe would eventually calm and fall into something of a an actual civilization.

Whilst a few lost hope and would take their own lives sixtten would remain after the first three years and eventually the group would settle down into there new home.

Le Rouge would watch and document her findings over the many years in secret, shortly before the third year anniversary new life begun in the desert as one of the women gave birth, this started a chain reaction over the course of the next decade as in total fiftheen children would be born and it was the children that drew Le Rouge's attention.

Fifthteen children all born with magic, not really a massiver shock except for the fact that not a single one of the parents had any magic to speak of nor had their ancestors.

Le Rouge at researched hard as she could, she had thought that perhaps the magic in the area thanks to her speels and the wards of her family protecting the area had been drained to give to the babies but upon inspecting the wards there had been no change. The spells she had used to create the river and oasis as well as the small forests areas were all flowing well with no drain upon the magic powering them.

Medeia couldn't explain or understand it and eventually any chance she had would come to an end.

The ICW had raided her home, she had sent her House elf off with instructions to hide the book somewhere safe where no one was likely to find it. She didn't get a chance to escape her home however as she was soon attacked by the authoraties, not wanting to see the end of her life's work she fought back viciously taking a few lives herself before she was finally subdubbed by two cutting spells one hitting a vein on her neck.She wouldn't live to see a trial.

The **** of Medeia Le Rouge did have one last repucussion, without someone from her family to power the wards the remaining magic hiding the hidden desert tribe would evaporate several weeks later.

Eventually the now group of 31 people found they could leave the area in which they were trapped but that's a different story.

No one ever discovered the experiment until a few years ago thanks to her son Harry, during his first year at Hogwarts he and several friends ahd accidentallys tumble upon the room of requirment, whilst they're had been rumours of sucha rooms exsistense it was considered more a myth than anything.

However the deparement of mysteries after dicosring it to be real had been shocked at the rooms versatility and even more so when they had found the room had acted aas a make shift warehouse for hidden items.

After scouring for weeks and months they had finally come across several books and diaries, one belonging to Medeia Le Rouge, the reporting department worker and read and was shocked at what he discovred before sharing it with the entire department.

Apparently Le Rouge's experiment could in fact be the answer to their problem of a declining birth rate. Magicals in terms of numbers had been dropping for over three hundred years but with the two Dark Lord wars of the last fifty it was becoming rather bleak.

The deparment had put in a plan in the works, unlike the originator they were hoping to approach the relatives of some of the muggleborn in Britain, Cousins, aunts and Uncles, there were even talks about approaching the Prime Minister about taking some voluenteers.

Still in order to remain within the ICW's ruiling they would approach some less direct muggleborn relatives first.

Ironically it had been Sirius Black who had been a massive help to the cause, being one of the few members left alive and out of prison he now had access to everything Black family related he had happily handed over control of the family owned island to his not quite sister in Law Lily when she had apprached him about the plan.

There was one last issue though, the island had few visitors and the Blacks had never really gone much futher than the beach estate they owned. Many creatures and other life on the island was undocumented and unknown, whilst some of it HAD been written down thanks to a few journals left by Black members who had visited it would still be unwise to allow those who couldn't perform magic be let loose in a potentially dangerous enviorment.

Lily couldn't help a almost childish huff escape her lips.

"What do you mean I'm the only candidate, what about the rest of you?" she exclaimed, all of her collegues looked sheepish but they did respond.

"Sarah's only six months old I can't leave Aurora to look after for a for two months alone"

"My little borther graduates in a few weeks, our family have been planning that world round trip for the last two years, I'm not missing it"

"...Hunter is still having issues since he lost his arm in that accident, he won't be up for it and I'm not going alone"

Lily repressed a grunt, she couldn't be too angry especially from the last one. However it still grated on her, whilst she hadn't been the one to decipher the text she had been the one to set up the agreement with Sirius about the island and even got him to hand over any knowledge about it to her department, honestly it was starting to feel like she was doing most of the work.

"What about my kids, I do have three children to look after you know, four if you count my child minded husband" she tried, her boss's lips turned upwards at the the jest but he was ready for her.

"You mean two teenages, one of which will be in his last year at Hogwarts come September and your youngest who will be joining her siblings as well, if anything you'll probably have a lot more free time on your hands Mrs potter", Lily sighed not really able to discount this, whilst the school year was almost over September was still just over two months away.

With Jasmine soon joining Harry and Rose at Hogwarts it would mean more free time when she wasn't working.

"What about James?" she asked, whilst the free time was one thing she had no desire to be away from her husband for two months. Her boss shrugged.

"He'll have to sign a secrecy clause much like Lord Black but you could just take him with you. The Man is an auror I highly doubt he'd be a detriment to the job" Lily did agree to that, truthfully James was just as good as she was with a wand in a fight he simply wasn't the type to enjoy research and development of things beyond pranks. Otherwise he could have easily joined his wife in the Department of Mystery.

"And just so we're clear what is my actual purpose with this for record?" she asked resigning herself to the fact she might end up having to do this assignment.

"One, clear the island of any dangerous animals or magical plants, actually make sure you document anything you come across, Two, finish off what the Black family didn't and map out the island as a whole, Three, stay safe and try and enjoy yourself" her boss listed off.

Lily thought about it, two months was a long time to be away from her home even with her husband, however the chaging of the seasons meants things that animals that appear or foliage that blooms in the summer might not be there in the autumn or maybe even replaced with something new.

Lily wasn't too worried about keeping in touch with the kids, Owl's might not be able to get through the wards apparently but Sirius was adament the two way mirrors the Marauders had created could, she could always send one off with one of her children.

Plus she had to be honest the idea was tempting, two months alone with the man she loved surrounded by sand and sea, a chance to explore a 'somewhat' unexplored land mass, the adventurous side of her was screaming at her to agree to the job, even her more adult motherly appraching forty year old part was sturggling to come up with reasons not to do this.

Yes it could be dangerous but with James there as well they would be able to combat almost anything, plus there would be emergancy protocols in place to avoid any distasters or injuries.

"I would have to talk to James first" she explained, unwilling to not at least discuss this with him first. Her boss nodded in agreement.

"Of course I wouldn't expect anything else", he crossed his arms.

"For what it's worth Lily I am grateful for this, it could be a real turning point for magical society as a whole" the others all nodded and made agreeing noises.

"Again I'll speak to James, probably tonight, obviously I won't say anythign about the project until an agreement is signed but if he's up for it I'll bring him by in the next few days" she replied.

She took another look at the project header and wondered if this really could be the answer to the birth issue. If nothing else it couldn't hurt to try right?.

*Once again guys, I'm sorry about any overabundance of spelling and grammer errors, as mentioned it's been a very long time since I wrote anything, The Medeia character isn't going to play a role I just needed the overall plot to have some sembelence of sense.
Also, the next chapter will contain the first actual sexual content of the story, it's also my first time writing smut so bear that in mind with your expectations. See you guys next week.
