The women sighed heavily after the lights failed to come back quickly. Storms were tricky like that, sometimes the power was out for ten seconds or sometimes it was ten days.
Jake started searching around the various storage draws of the kitchen and his few closets downstairs. When nothing came up, he went upstairs to look. Luckily he knew the house Quite well even with no vision. His mission was to find batteries, because if he found batteries he could use them in a couple of flashlights he had waiting around. He distinctly remembered tossing the batteries after the last camping trip he'd taken, but could not remember if he'd ever bought more. The upstairs was no more fruitful than the downstairs, and eventually Jake had to give up.
"Sorry ladies, I seem to be out of batteries. No flashlights for us," Jake stated slightly defeated.
"I'm pretty sure Maria was going to win anyway," Sarah said, doing her best to try and start clearing the game board back into the box. It was difficult to do in the dark, which was her excuse to ignore the fact that she was moderately tipsy.
With the power out, none of the street lamps were working either, and the storm clouds were definitely blocking out the stars. Though their eyes were sort of adjusting to the dark, it wasn't quite enough to really do much of anything. The women started discussing whether or not they should just try and sleep for the night and hope everything was clear by morning. They debated whether or not it was worth it to try and walk back to Sarah's car in the storm.
"Don't be silly," Jake said. "There's lightning and probably small floods on the street by now. You can all sleep upstairs and I'll take the couch down here."
[The women insist on going back to Sarah's.]
