Incubus Tales

In the human world, you are known as John Doe. In the demon world, you’re a first-class incubus that has yet to earn a name. You plan on changing that by your deeds in the human world.

Demons like you strive to earn a name, and thus a right to exist. A demon without a name is like not existing at all, meaning you could be dropped at any time without consequence. Granted, it’s not like nameless demons are killed just for the fun of it (although some demons with names take to it like a game or a sport). However, without a name, and no great deeds attached to that name, even a small mistake can prove lethal, and you end up as another bloodstain on the floor before even that is eliminated.

Naturally, the human world is ripe with opportunities for a demon to prove him/herself. The main problem is how to achieve the best results under a set of given rules and compromises. There are too many rules and so many subsections, it’s ridiculous, but the gist of it is you aren’t allowed to outright kill a human unless you acquire permission, you aren’t allowed to expose your identity to society (individual humans are allowed under most circumstances, as long as you don’t get sloppy and don’t **** the ability to do so), and you cannot undermine your fellow demons, unless your objectives conflict with each other, in which case it is expected that you both settle the matter the good ol’ fashioned demon way: tear at each other’s hide’s until one of you draws their last breath. There are a number of other rules too, but for your purposes, most of them are irrelevant. Still, as annoying as they are, these rules were an important compromise between demons and angels, and has kept a fragile sense of peace intact for about as long as anyone can remember. There are the occasional outbursts every now and then, but there are rules regarding that too, and for the most part both parties are satisfied with these arrangements.

As an incubus, you are fairly low in the demon hierarchy, but there’s plenty of chance to advance yourself and grow in power. If you played your cards right, you could become one of the most powerful demons of your time. That said, it’ll be hard to realize such ambitions without a name, hence your visit to the human world. Luckily, you have plenty of time to impress someone.
