The two flavors of .
From Scars to Stars: Two Responses to One Hate
A kaleidoscope of weeks had spun past since Jasmine had bravely stepped out of the closet, openly declaring her true self to the world. Each day seemed to bleed into the next, and yet, they were all uniquely different, each one bringing with it a new experience, a fresh insight, another step forward on her journey. The initial shock of her revelation had quickly dissipated, replaced with a sense of liberation that was more profound than anything she had ever known. The echoes of her declaration still hung in the air, but they were no longer a bombshell that shattered her world. Instead, they were now a melody that soothed her soul, a rhythm that made her heart dance with joy.
Living as Jasmine was now a little like slipping into a well-worn pair of shoes that had been tucked away in the back of her closet. They were familiar, comforting, and just the perfect fit. As the days passed, she found herself falling into a comfortable routine, building a life that was wholly hers, unburdened by the weight of pretense and expectation. This was a sharp contrast to how she felt at first. Jasmine had been walking on eggshells since she'd come out. Every glance thrown her way, every whisper that trailed behind her, every facial expression that changed when people saw her - they all felt magnified. But despite the occasional discomfort, it was liberating to finally embrace herself fully, to step out into the world as Jasmine, the woman she'd always known herself to be.
Her interactions with the people in her life evolved as well. Those who chose not to accept her found themselves gradually being pushed to the periphery of her world, their voices fading into an indistinct murmur. On the other hand, the ones who stood by her were pulled closer into her orbit. Their acceptance, their understanding, their willingness to embrace Jasmine was a balm to her soul, a soft reassurance that she was not alone when Natalie wasn't there to reminder her and drive out her self doubt and hate. There were a few who went out of their way to outright reject and insult her when given the chance, and Mark was among them.
Mark. Their friendship had once been shaky, built on the foundation of Jasmine's constant efforts to fit in, to win over the gruff man she worked with. When she came out as Jasmine, Mark's rejection had cut deep. She had tried to extend an olive branch, tried to mend the bridge he had burnt. But his harsh rebuke had left her stinging. It was clear that he had no intention of accepting her.
"Living well is the best ****," she reminded herself. The quote had always resonated with her, and she held onto it now as she navigated her changing life. She put her energy into living her life fully as Jasmine, into embracing her femininity and asserting her identity. She poured her heart and soul into her work, her relationships, and her transition.
In the face of Mark's rejection, Jasmine found strength in herself. She found solace in the support of Natalie, Alex, and others who stood by her. She found joy in the small victories - choosing her outfit for the day, putting on makeup, hearing people address her by her chosen name. She found courage in the challenges, facing them head-on and growing stronger with each passing day.
She decided to focus on herself rather than on Mark's rejection. His negativity was a dark cloud, but she wouldn't let it rain on her parade. She was Jasmine
One person who was noticeably absent from this supportive circle was Mark. Jasmine had tried reaching out to him, hoping to salvage their friendship, but his response was a resounding rebuke. It stung, the rejection was a harsh reminder of the prejudices she would have to face in her journey, but she refused to let it break her spirit. She remembered a quote she had once read, "Living well is the best ****," and resolved to do just that. She decided to pour all her energy into living her best life, to fill her days with joy, love, and laughter, to focus on the people who loved and accepted her. Mark's rejection was a bitter pill to swallow, but she was determined not to let it poison her happiness.
Natalie was having a somewhat different experience. For Natalie, coming out of the closet had been more like stepping out of a room she had only ever been half inside. Her sexuality had always been fluid, something she had never felt the need to hide or make a definitive statement about.
She had always been more of a drifter when it came to labels, happily existing in the grey areas between definitions. Natalie was a woman who loved women, and men, and those who identified as neither. She loved people, not genders, and her love for Jasmine was an extension of that. Domination and submission with feminization and sissification being just new flavors of what she had already be dabbling in. New but not the daunting task it was for Jasmine.
Being out in the open with Jasmine was a comfortable space for Natalie. She found that she was met with acceptance from most of their friends and colleagues, and the few that showed discomfort or judgment were quickly dismissed from her life. She had no room for narrow-mindedness or bigotry, especially when it was directed towards someone she loved so deeply.
However during this time of moderate lifestyle change, that she was not otherwise occupied, Natalie was a woman possessed, driven by a white-hot fury that demanded satisfaction. Mark’s transgressions against Jasmine had stirred in her an anger that was relentless and unyielding. Mark had crossed a line, and Natalie was hell-bent on making him pay for it. It wasn't even that others had not had bad or even worse reactions, it was that Mark had become a friend and had that bad of a reaction, the betrayal temporally broke something in Jasmine which in turned broke Natalie's, she now determined to break not just mark's heart but Him completely if she could management. She continued to ignore the voice that was telling her this plan was going to far.
She began subtly, using her influence at the gym to paint Mark in an unflattering light. She used her budding friendship with Alex and Luraine to get access and rebooked all of Mark’s clients, stacking his schedule with every non-straight member of the gym she could figure out. Mark, unable to hide his discomfort, made a series of offhand comments that did not sit well with his clients. Rumors of his bigotry quickly spread, tarnishing his reputation at the gym.
But that was just the beginning. Natalie took it upon herself to exploit Mark's machismo, his pride in his fitness and his body. She found a trans man, muscular and athletic, still retaining a hint of his feminine charm. Natalie ensured he requested Mark as his trainer, a request Mark could hardly refuse without raising suspicion. As the training sessions progressed, the trans man consistently outperformed Mark, his strength and endurance exceeding Mark's own. Each session was a blow to Mark's inflated ego, chipping away at his self-confidence.
Simultaneously, Natalie introduced Mark to a trans woman, breathtakingly beautiful and strikingly intelligent. She was, by all accounts, Mark’s dream woman, and he fell for her, unknowingly walking right into Natalie's trap. When the truth of her identity was revealed, Mark's reaction was predictable, and the woman, no longer interested in his bigotry, swiftly rejected him.
Natalie watched from the sidelines as Mark's world came crashing down. She watched him grapple with the truth, watched him struggle with the consequences of his actions. Each fallout, each uncomfortable confrontation, each rejected advance, was a symphony to Natalie’s ears, the sweet sound of ****. She reveled in the chaos she had orchestrated, the web of humiliation and introspection she had woven around Mark.
Yet amidst the satisfaction, Natalie noticed a change in Mark. His expressions were more solemn, his demeanor quieter. He seemed to be wrestling with something within himself, something Natalie hadn’t anticipated. Something beyond just anguish at his current predicament. It was an unintended but potentially beneficial consequence of Natalie's relentless pursuit of ****.
The gym was nearly empty when Mark sat down on a bench, staring at his reflection in the large mirror that spanned the room. The once vibrant and lively place now felt hollow and cold. It was a stark contrast to the man he used to be - confident, charismatic, the center of attention. Now, he felt small, insignificant, and lost. Like he used to.
In the midst of his contemplation, the gym's owner approached him, a stern look on Her face. Mark had been expecting this. Rumors of his actions had been spreading, his reputation had been tarnished, and it was only a matter of time before consequences were handed out.
"Mark, we need to talk," the Luraine started, Her tone grave. She held a thick envelope in her hands, the words "From: Flex Legal Partners ATTN: Luraine SUBJECT: Human Resource Advisement And Plan." printed on the front. That was the Law Firm that acted as Luraine's General counsel and who she ran her HR decisions through, This was serious."There have been some serious allegations made against you. You've been accused of harassment and creating a hostile work environment. If you want to keep your job, you're going to have to attend mandatory training sessions and counseling."
Mark nodded, his face ashen. The full weight of his actions was finally hitting him. He was at rock bottom.
Meanwhile, Jasmine was in the back office when she spotted Natalie messing with the gym schedule on the computer Mark had left logged in, as he had a bad habit of doing, she glanced up every few seconds to check if anyone could see her, never realizing Jasmine was only behind her by a few yards and only hidden by the long term storage files she was helping Luraine work though. Realizing what Natalie had been doing, Jasmine felt a surge of anger and disappointment. That evening, back at their apartment, Jasmine confronted Natalie.
"Natalie, we need to talk," Jasmine said, her tone serious. "I saw what you were doing at the gym today."
Natalie froze, her eyes widening slightly. "I... I don't know what you're talking about," she stammered, but her voice lacked conviction.
"You've been sabotaging Mark," Jasmine accused, her voice shaking with anger. "And I won't stand for it. I know he hurt me, but this... this isn't the right way to handle things."
Natalie looked at Jasmine, a mix of guilt and defiance on her face. "He deserved it," she retorted, her voice bitter. "He hurt you, Jas. He needed to learn a lesson."
"But not like this," Jasmine shot back. "This isn't justice, Natalie. It's ****. It's pettiness. And it's not who we are. It's not who I want us to be."
The confrontation was intense, their apartment filled with a tension it had never known before. Jasmine's words hung heavy in the air, a stark reminder of the line Natalie had crossed. The night ended in silence, but the subject would not lie.
Their argument resumed sometime after midnight and raged on late into the early morning, both of them too passionate, too stubborn to back down.
Jasmine was relentless in her disapproval, arguing that Natalie's actions were crossing the line. "What you're doing, Natalie, it's not right. I know you're angry, and trust me, I'm angry too. But taking **** on Mark isn't the solution. This isn't justice; it's vengeance, and it's not the person I know you to be."
Natalie scoffed, crossing her arms defensively. "And what would you have me do, Jasmine? Just let him off the hook? He hurt you, and he'd probably do it again if given the chance. I won't let that happen."
"This isn't about protecting me, Natalie," Jasmine shot back, her voice trembling with emotion. "This is about you taking matters into your own hands and dealing out punishment as you see fit. And it's not okay. It's scary, Natalie. This is not the person I fell in love with."
Natalie flinched as if struck. "I'm doing this for you, Jasmine! For us! To make sure no one hurts you again!"
"But that's not your call to make!" Jasmine replied, her voice echoing through their apartment. "And what's more, it's not about me anymore, is it? It's about you. It's about your anger and your need to make him pay. But at what cost, Natalie? At the cost of our relationship? At the cost of your humanity?"
Natalie fell silent, her eyes wide with surprise and hurt. She had plans, big plans that would have Mark crawling on his knees begging for forgiveness. But looking at Jasmine, seeing the pain and fear in her eyes, Natalie couldn't help but question her actions.
"I... I didn't mean for it to go this far," Natalie admitted, her voice barely a whisper. "I just wanted to protect you, Jas."
"But I don't want protection that involves hurting others," Jasmine replied softly. "I want a life where we can be safe and loved, not one filled with **** and hate. Natalie, we have to be better than this."
Their argument ended with an uncomfortable silence, both women lost in their thoughts.
How far is Natalie willing to go and what will it do to the realationship?
