Chapter 3

Where should you go next?
Check for a bedroom
As hungry as you were, you were about to pass out from exhaustion and crawling underneath a big blanket felt like the right call. You headed into the first room after the bathroom and discovered a bedroom with a giant four poster bed sitting inside. You decided to do some snooping, but didn’t find any personal possessions in the room. Or at least not many that you could discern in the relative darkness. Perhaps this was a guest room?
Regardless, what you did find was a pen and a pad, sitting atop a vanity, and you wrote down a quick letter explaining your situation and taped it to the door, just in case the owner came home while you were sleeping. Still in the robe, you kicked off the slippers and hopped into the bed, falling asleep.
The hours spent trudging through the snow had exhausted you, so you were out like a light for several hours. As you awoke, you found yourself feeling extremely well-rested, but that quickly meant that you remembered your situation and ran back out into the main living room area to check if the owner had returned.
They seem to have not, as your note was still attached to the door, but, annoyingly enough, the fire had gone out. You’d hoped it stayed on long enough for your clothes to dry, but no luck, they were still damp and cold. Reigniting the fire, your stomach began to growl and you remembered how hungry you were. However, despite the fire illuminating the room, along with the outside sunlight, you realized that there was no electricity! That ruled out any fresh food, but there was probably a pantry somewhere with canned goods, but you’d need an operational kitchen to heat it up. It wasn’t strictly necessary, but it would definitely do you good to have a warm meal. And there was also a telephone that you needed power to use to call for help, although you’re not sure where you’d direct people to, given that you didn’t know exactly where you were.
“Maybe there’s a generator somewhere…” you started to search around the chalet.
It was just a single floor, and the only additional rooms you discovered, in addition to the bedroom, bathroom and living room were a kitchen (with a pantry as you expected), a hall closet filled with sheets and towels, and a locked door that you couldn’t open. But no generator, and common sense dictates that a generator would be outside, likely behind the house.
Now that you’d explored, there were a lot of choices to make. You could get something to eat, or you could find something to wear and check the backyard for a generator. Or you could take a bath and soothe your aching muscles.
What do you do next?
