The Resistance Camp

Huntress led Rachel to her group's hideout. "You should be safe here until morning--"

"OOGITYBOOGITYOHSHITWHOAREYOU--" bellowed an obnoxious voice as a heavily scarred figure jumped out in front of Rachel, prompting her to scream and Helena to unload a crossbow bolt into the apparent attacker's chest, knocking him off his feet.

"What the FUCK is wrong with you, Wade?!" Huntress screamed.

"Ididn'tknowyou'dhavecompany..." Wade slurred, seemingly contrite about scaring the woman Helena had brought to their hideout. He walked over to the terrified Rachel and his demeanor changed.

"Hey, lady... sorry about that. People call me Deadpool -- don't worry I'm not one of the bad guys here. Well, I *am* a bad guy, but I'm not one of those ugly feral spooky bloodsucking mutated infected--"

"Get to the point, Wade," Helena urged.

"--I'm not a vampire is what I'm trying to say. I mean, yeah, they look like sun dried nutsacks, and I do too, but look -- no fangs."

"Wade's an obnoxious dumbass, but you can trust him," Helena added. "He's not a vampire, even if he looks like one."

"One of the guy ones, anyway. The lady vampires are all super-hot and the guy vampires are all pieces of dehydrated fruit with fangs. Makes me wonder what I'd look like if I turned -- can you imagine what the spawn of a wrinkled scrote and a dried fig might look like? I try to, but I get the image of them fucking in my head and I can't get it out..."

"I-I... uh... sure?" Rachel stammered, unsure what to make of Deadpool, aside from the fact that he never seemed to shut up.

"Look, I get the sense that I'm kinda freaking you out here, so I'll be on my way," Wade said, masking his face. "I'm on vampire patrol tonight, and it's Decapitation o'clock."

"Is he gonna be OK?" Rachel asked as Deadpool left the hideout.

Huntress scratched the back of her neck, unsure how exactly to describe Deadpool to her new guest. "I doubt it... Wade's got way too many issues. But he'll survive, if that's what you're asking."

Rachel looked down at her feet while Huntress watched her curiously. "So, uh... who are you people?" Rachel asked quietly, breaking their silence.

"We're part of a resistance group," Huntress explained. "We've been working on trying to find the source of this vampire plague -- and a cure." Helena introduced her to the rest of the camp; they were a group of about 10 people, Rachel reasoned. Some were more recognizable than others, but Rachel found herself starstruck upon being introduced to none other than Supergirl herself.

"Where'd you come from?" Kara asked during their conversation. "Were you in a camp, or are you a lone scavenger?"

"My camp's about halfway across town," Rachel answered. "I was practicing with my track & field team when the vampires attacked. We've been surviving, but it's been a struggle."

"Your track & field team?" Kara asked curiously.

"Yeah, I'm part of the National City University athletics team. Our women's team was one of the favorites at the upcoming national meet. We had our eyes set on getting a few medals for ourselves... and then the vampires came out of nowhere, and, well, you know the rest."

Kara continued, "I see. And where's the rest of your team holed up?"

"We've set up camp at the university stadium," Rachel told Kara. "Why do you ask?"

Kara answered, "I wanna check on 'em. Make sure they're OK."

"You'd do that?"

"I kinda have to, now that I know they're out there. Maybe your friends don't need my help, but I'm not going to be able to sleep until I know for sure," Kara explained.

"Oh. Well, I appreciate it," Rachel said gratefully.

"I'll be back as soon as I can," Kara told Huntress.

"Blade's not gonna be happy about this, Kara," Helena said. "But I'm not gonna stop you."

"He can yell at me all he wants when I get back. I'll see you tomorrow," Kara said, flying off towards the NCU stadium.
