When morning comes, you’re a bit tired, but you’re comfortably snuggled between Emi and Lili, so you have no complaints. It does make getting out of bed difficult, both physically and emotionally! Emi wakes as you sit up, and smiles at you. Lili simply murmurs in her sleep, pulling the covers higher over herself.

You gather your clothes, and sit in the edge of the bed to get dressed. As you do, Emi hugs you from behind, her body warm against your bare back. Neither of you speak, but you hear a happy sigh as she rests her head against you. She lets go so that you can pull on a shirt, and then leans in to kiss your cheek.

“We’re probably going to sleep in, my love. We’ll be here when you get home from work.”

You turn, giving Emi a proper kiss. “Always giving me something to look forward to, you’re the best.”

Emi blushes, and you chuckle, staying quiet so you don’t wake the sleeping harpy. With one more kiss, you stand, and head to the kitchen to grab a quick breakfast before heading to work. Along the way, your mind goes back to the decision you have ahead of you. Even when you start working, you’re still weighing the options, and considering your next step.

Finally, your next step becomes obvious. You pull out your phone, and send a message to Sam.

So, something big has happened, and I’d love to get your thoughts. Can we meet up sometime?

You start to put your phone away, but the response is immediate.

Of course! I’m free after work, you want to meet up for a drink? My treat.

You chuckle at the quick response.

I think that sounds good. You have a place in mind?

Again, the response is immediate. Sam is clearly excited about this.

Great! Meet me at Callahan’s Bar, I'm good friends with the owner. Around 5:30 sound good?

You think for a moment, then answer.

Yup, sounds great. Gives me time to run home and get the girls. We’ll see you there.

There’s a pause this time, and just as you think it’s settled, there’s a response.

Say, could you come by yourself? As much as I like Emi and Lili, I wouldn’t mind having you to myself for a bit.

You’re a bit surprised at that. Part of you was pretty sure that Sam was more interested in the Hybrids than in you. Now you’re not so convinced.

Yeah, I can do that. I’ll just stop at home to shower and let them know, and then I’ll be there.

She simply responds with a smiling emoji, and you chuckle at the smart, beautiful doctor texting you like a teenager. Putting your phone away, you go back to work. It’s been a strange week, and you’re not even done yet.
