How should I respond to that?
Respond piously
She looked at me right in the eye waiting for my response with a slightly mocking look. I answered in a calm voice. Something in her imposed on me. She appeared to be such a strong and powerful woman. She was very popular here in the Convent and many of the girls tended to follow her lead. I was convinced I would never, ever be like her.
Layla: It's okay, Sister Helen, I understand. I appreciate your concern for my spiritual well-being and, thankfully, I am finding the book of revelations truly interesting. God verily works in mysterious ways!
Helen: What a relief to know you harbor no resentment in your heart, sister. I would of course study the sacred texts with you. Remember that this afternoon Father Martín will be coming to hear confession, so perhaps you can also unburden yourself of your sins with him. I'll see you at the chapel at seven.
Layla: Thank you for reminding me, sister. I'll see you there.
