What's next?

Don't rush with Charlie

As you finish your shift and wipe down the counters, you feel a familiar flutter in your chest as you see Charlie walk into the coffee shop. She's wearing a sleek black dress that hugs her curves in all the right places, and her hair is styled in loose waves. You feel a little self-conscious in your work apron and khakis, but you can't help but smile as she approaches the counter.

"Hey Alex," she says, her voice low and sultry.

"Hey Charlotte," you reply, trying to keep your cool.

"Are you on break?" she asks, glancing at the clock on the wall.

"Yeah, just finishing up actually. What brings you here?" you ask.

"I was hoping to grab a coffee and chat for a bit, if you're free."

"Sure, I'd love to. What can I get for you?" you ask with the smile you're so used to keeping at the counter.

"Just a black coffee, please. And do you have any time to sit and talk?"

"Of course," you say, feeling a little giddy at the prospect of spending more time with her.

As you pour her coffee and grab a cup for yourself, you try to think of what to say. You don't want to come off as too eager, but you also don't want to seem disinterested. Charlie seems to sense your nervousness and takes the lead in the conversation.

"So, how was your day?"

"It was alright. Work was busy as usual, but it's not too bad."

"That's good. You seem like you're really good at your job."

You feel a flush creep up your neck at the compliment. "Thanks. I try my best."

"I have no doubt about that," she says, giving you a playful smile.

You chat for a while about your favorite books and movies, and you're surprised at how much you have in common. She's intelligent and funny, and you feel like you could talk to her for hours. But eventually, you realize that you need to get back to work.

"I should probably get going," you say, checking your watch.

"Of course. Thanks for chatting with me."

"Anytime. And thanks for the coffee." You smile.

"Let me know if you want to hang out again sometime," she says, giving you a lingering look.

You nod, feeling your heart race as she walks out the door. As you get back to work, you can't help but wonder if you should ask her out on a proper date or play it cool and wait for her to make the next move.
