Tracking down Kara
Kara stopped, breathing heavily as she looked around. It looked like she'd lost Bloodsport... for now. Whatever he had hit her with earlier, it had seriously dampened her powers; unable to fly or speed away, she had to weigh her options. She was still strong enough to take on the hunter in a hand-to-hand fight, but with DuBois' arsenal of guns and Kryptonite bullets, it was still an extremely dangerous proposition. No, she'd have to think of something other than a head-to-head confrontation.
"I know you're in here, Supergirl," Bloodsport's voice echoed throughout the warehouse. "Get out here now, and I'll end it quickly."
Fuck, Kara thought. I knew he'd find my trail... Still, I thought I had more time.
"I want you to know, I really am sorry about this," DuBois told Kara. "But if I bring the other hunters your head, they're gonna get this bomb out of mine."
For many of the hunters, Kraven & Cheetah's hunt was an opportunity; in the case of Bloodsport, they promised to free him from Amanda Waller's control and the demands of Task **** X. Continuing to work for Waller would mean certain **** in Robert Dubois' mind, so as he saw it, it was either him or Kara.
Kara wanted to try and reason with Bloodsport, but it would have given her position away -- besides, it likely wouldn't have done any good anyway. She continued to skulk around the warehouse, attempting to avoid the hunter as she looked for an escape route. Unfortunately, it was to no avail -- DuBois had covered the exits well.
Not much later, Kara was taken by surprise when she heard the click of a pistol and turned to see Bloodsport aiming it at her head. "It's you or me," he said regretfully, ready to squeeze the trigger, only be knocked away by a familiar dog.
"Huh. Didn't figure the dog was going to show up," Bloodsport hissed as he got up. "Also would've expected him to hit harder."
Krypto stood between Bloodsport and Supergirl, growling viciously at the merc. Bloodsport pulled out a second pistol, aiming it squarely at the dog. "Your dog's hurt. Think he's fast enough to take me down before I pull the trigger?"
"Krypto... no..." Kara gasped. She wasn't able to move fast enough to protect her dog. But, as Bloodsport attempted to pull the trigger once again, Gwen's webbing yanked the gun from his hand.
"Shooting my new buddy? Totally not cool," Gwen said as she nailed Bloodsport with a stiff kick to the face. "I may smack you around a little more than I usually would for that."
"Ghost-Spider? And... Cassie?" Kara said, clearly not expecting company.
"Hey Kara," Cassie said to Kara. "Been a while, huh?"
"Too long. Did Conner send you?"
"Yeah. Said he'd lost contact with you. Your dog insisted on coming along, by the way. We wouldn't have tracked you down without him," Cassie explained.
"Did you find Krypto?" Kara wondered.
"Yeah, he showed up at Titans Tower. He's hurt, but he's still powering through."
After a flurry of punches and webbing Bloodsport to the wall, Gwen landed in front of the other women. Krypto jumped up, tail wagging when he saw Gwen, who began giving him friendly scratched on the neck and ears in response. "He's a tough little guy. We got into a little trouble along the way, but Cass & I kept him out of harm's way. Isn't that right, boy? No way I'm letting anyone hurt my awesome new favorite pal!"
"Well, I appreciate you looking after Krypto, Ghost-Spider," a grateful Kara said.
"Call me Gwen," Ghost-Spider said, pulling her hood back and unmasking. Kara's eyes went a little wider -- behind that mask, Gwen was reaaaally pretty. "And you can pay me back by letting me keep Krypto."
"Grateful as I am, that's not happening," Kara smirked. She'd always like Ghost-Spider, and since Krypto clearly liked Gwen, she found she liked Gwen even more. "You'll have to get your own dog."
Gwen teased disappointment, still playfully scratching Krypto "I wonder if I could find a Spider-Dog somewhere out there..." she pondered.
"Still, I'm glad you brought him back to me... and that I got to finally meet the woman behind the mask. When did you start hanging out with Cassie?" Kara asked.
"Since she & I started dating," Gwen said, flashing an affectionate smile at Cassie.
Cassie blushed and returned the smile. "Yeah, we're a thing now... and honestly, it's been pretty awesome."
"Oh, that is adorable," Kara grinned. "You two are gonna have to tell me all about it later... but you're probably needed out there."
"What about you?" Cassie asked. "We could use your help out there."
Kara regretfully shook her head. "I'd love to help, but Bloodsport hit me with some Kryptonite bullet earlier. Judging my my reaction, it drained the solar energy from my body. Right now, I need to find some place to recharge without a bunch of bad guys gunning for my head."
"Get to Titans Tower. Raven's there," Cassie suggested. "I'll tell her you're coming. And you can call Conner and let him know you're OK."
"Sounds good. And thanks again, both of you -- you have no idea how important this guy is to me," Kara said, exchanging fist bumps with Cassie & Gwen.
"One more thing before we go," Gwen said, about to ask the question that had been gnawing at her mind since finding Krypto. "Krypto's wounds... they're not kryptonite-related, are they?"
Kara took a closer look at Krypto's wounds. "This is some kind of magic, I'm sure of it. Whoever did this was looking to weaken Krypto, kinda like Bloodsport did to me, only with magic."
"Why? What's the point of doing that?" Gwen wondered out loud.
"Maybe to keep a more level playing field? Everyone out there's hunting for sport," Cassie hypothesized.
"Huh. Maybe. Whatever's going on, I've got a bad feeling about this -- like something else is in play now," Gwen worried. "Hopefully the others found something at Fisk Tower."
"Speaking of which, we should head there now," Cassie suggested. "Kara, do you and Krypto need any help--"
"--We'll be fine," Kara assured the pair. "Both of us have been through a lot worse. Cass-- Gwen-- Good luck out there. We'll talk soon."
