Stay calm and wait for the real boss

“Thanks, but I assume you are busy and I better talk directly with your boss,” you say and sit down on a nearby table, “I just wait here until he is back.”

“What are you talking about?” the employee asks confused, “just come with me, answer me a few questions and I take care of the rest.”

“But in the time, you are away, nobody can take the customers’ orders” you reply friendly but strict, “so, we better both stay where we are.”

The employee is clearly not pleased with your decision, he wants to answer something rude and insulting, but in the moment, he opens his mouth, a gray-haired man with an elegant shirt and a blue tie walks from the storage past him. you don’t need to be a genius to see that he is the owner of this café.

“Excuse me, sir,” you say quickly, “I’m here because you look for a waitress. I would like to if it is ok if I work here a few hours from time to time.”

“Sure it is,” the owner answers friendly, “but I need permanent employees. If you can only work a few hours sometimes I can’t employ you with the same conditions.”

“That’s fine,” you answer, I just need to kill some time.

“Great, come to my office, so we can discuss the details,” the owner answers and turns to the employee, “Lucas, why haven’t you told me? I told you to tell me if anything happens while I’m in the storage.”

“I … I forgot you were there,” the employee called Lucas lies, “I thought you left the shop. My mistake.”

You roll your eyes and the owner of the café seems to not buy this story either. But he lets it slide and heads towards the office. It’s a small room with a file cabinet, a desk and a few chairs.

“Well, let’s start with some introductions,” the owner says after sitting down, “I’m Eric Riley, Mr. Riley for my employees. Lucas is my only employee but … he is not very motivated as you maybe saw.”

“I’m Ashley Pike,” you introduce yourself and smile a little because he has the same name as your bodyguard, “I worked in a restaurant as a waitress sometimes and I thought until my … friend picks me up in a few hours I could earn some money.”

“I understand,” Mr. Riley says and sighs, “well, I’m afraid I can't register you at the unemployment office for two or three hours as a temporary worker. What I could offer you would be a kind of internship. No health insurance and only a small compensation for your time, but you get to keep any tips you get. And I would be really glad if you would consider working here more often.”

“Great, that sounds perfect for me,” you say happy, “as I said, I already worked as a waitress. I can start right now.”

“Very good,” Mr. Riley answers and nods, “in the dressing room should be a Uniform in your size. It’s just a shirt with our logo.”

You quickly nod and head to the dressing room. it’s just a small room with a bench and four cheap lockers. In one of them you find a dozen of the uniforms in different sizes. You change and then go to the café’s main room. Lucas seems not very pleased by you working with him, but he seems to not mind your presence as long as he can stare at your ass while you serve the guests.
