Back to the safety of her home

This is not happening. An alien invasion? In Suisun of all places? Is this happening globally? Hailey's mind rushed with thoughts as she ran as fast as her legs could carry her away from the rapidly approaching alien war machine.

First, she needed to get to safety. Hailey only glanced back a few times to see the machine firing upon any stragglers that came into it's sights, vaporizing their clothes into oblivion and leaving them naked.

Hailey took a sharp left turn when the war craft wasn't looking to the front, turning to the right to make the clothes of some unfortunate jogger disappear. She made a few turns and shortcuts further away from the alien until she was finally at her house, fumbling with the keys in nervousness for a few seconds before finally getting inside. She slammed the door shut and double-locked it.

Hailey wasted no time, immediately shutting all the curtains over the windows and barricading every door while locking every single possible entrance to the home.

She paced in her locked bedroom, trying to calm down. After a few seconds, she finally got her StarTAC out of her pocket and dialed her dad's number with still-shaking hands, praying that he'd pick up as she leaned against the wall.

"Hello? Honey? Is everything all right at home?" Her dad finally picked up, immediately showing concern.

Hailey's relatives were living in the countryside, about an hour or two away from the nearest city. If the ships only targeted cities, they had ample time to run or evacuate.

"Yeah. I'm just wondering, did you see anything... Strange? Like on the news or out there?" She tried to stay calm and collected, phrasing her question like an unimportant query.

"Nope. Nothing strange here, though there are reports of a few streakers in the nearby city making the news though. Weirdos... Why? Did something happen?" Her dad recounted the latest news he'd been seeing, starting to become more worried.

"I know you won't believe me, and I can't explain it all to you right now, but if you see a very tall walking machine in the distance. Don't approach. Avoid it, hide, anything but let it see you. I love you, keep safe!" Hailey instructed him, ending the phone call before she could hear his reaction.

Hailey then closed her eyes, turning the phone off to conserve power and reduce noise in case the aliens were particularly sensitive to noise. At least her parents and relatives were safe, for now. Though from the looks of it, the aliens were not only targeting Suisun or even California. What did they want? Where were they from? There were a lot of questions and not a lot of answers.

Just then, there was a knock at the door that almost made Hailey jump in sheer surprise.
