Chapter 8

Tabatha phased her way back into her bedroom. The portal that formed after she left CyberSquire took her to her local mini market. Tabitha took the hint and went in and bought a lottery ticket using her Twist powers to pick the numbers. While they were hiding out, Richie had said that the troopers who attacked her would be looking for her and that they might use her family to get to her. He had offered to put her up in a safe house. Tabitha had agreed but she thought she would have more time if her powers were hinting that she should put her plan into action to get her mom and sister some money to run away with in case they needed to run, then she probably had far less time than she thought.

She hastily wrote her mom a note then took out her duffel bag and then used her Twist powers to fold her entire closet and most of her earthly belongings into it and then folded the duffel into her school bag. Tabitha was concerned that she wouldn’t be able to pick her school bag up since she had merged so many things into it but it felt the same as usual. She must be stowing these things in some kind of pocket dimension not just merging them together.

Tabitha looked wistfully around at her mostly empty bedroom. She thought of Lonnie remembering that fateful day when his cousin had stripped him naked and locked them outside together. She looked out her window towards his room and felt her power activate and her vision extend like it did when she looked into the guy’s showers while standing in the middle of the locker room. She knew she should shut her power down, but she wanted to see Lonnie again in case she didn’t see him at school.

Her vision snaked through his window and through his closed bathroom door to Lonnie’s shower and then through his shower door, but something was wrong. Lonnie’s hair was much too dark and his skin was the wrong color. The naked man in the shower turned around and it wasn’t Lonnie. It was Lonnie’s best friend Tony Choi!

Tony was oblivious to the fact that he was being observed. He was scrubbing his thin but attractive body and belting out one of the latest pop songs. A rather girly song that he would probably be embarrassed to know Tabitha was hearing. Tabitha found herself wondering what would embarrass Tony more, his girly taste in music, his half dancing half scrubbing dance moves, his singing, or of course the fact that he was completely naked while doing it. Tabitha couldn’t help but giggle at him.

Lonnie opened his bedroom door and rolled his eyes at his friend’s off-key singing coming from his bathroom. Tony did realize that Lonnie’s Mom and sister had ears too, right?

Lonnie stopped in his tracks as he saw something in his room. It looked like a distortion in the air and though it was transparent it distorted the images of the things behind it. As Lonnie continued to stare at it, he could almost see a shimmer to it. Lonnie walked forward and touched the distortion and it flared with pink energy highlighting a trail of energy that extended from his bathroom door out his window and across his and Tabitha’s yard and through Tabitha’s bedroom window to Tabitha herself.

Tabitha had been engrossed in watching Tony’s naked performance when something snapped her out of it and then suddenly, she was back in her own body, so to speak, and she was staring out her window at a shocked Lonnie.

Tabitha panicked and mimed shutting her curtains with her arms as her powers did just that. Great job Tabitha you just closed your curtains without touching them exposing your powers to Lonnie, how are you going to explain that? I guess that’s karma for me seeing him naked when we were kids.

Lonnie saw Tabitha panic and fling her arms closed and then her curtains closed on their own followed by his curtains even as his window shut so hard the glass broke and then Lonnie felt his body go all tingly.

His clothes fell right off of him like he wasn’t even there, and Lonnie floated off the ground and was hurled at his bathroom door Lonnie put up his arms to shield his face, but he went right through the door just like his clothes went right through him.

As Lonnie went through the closed bathroom door, he saw Tony similarly floating and naked phasing through the shower door and heading right towards Lonnie. Lonnie and Tony collided with each other. The world seemed to enlarge as Tony and Lonnie came together, or were they shrinking?
