Fantasy

Not wanting to waste any time, Vanessa just circles fantasy and slides the paper back over to the man. “So, can you tell me what I will be doing now?”

“Yes, since you have signed the contract, I can explain what you will be doing.” The man said, getting tired of the girl’s constant questions. “Basically, you will go into one of our special back rooms and act as a way for people to live out the fantasy of meeting a character the like. It is like the performers in Disney that dress up as the characters and pretend to be them for young children. We offer all sorts of options to our customers, and it is quite the popular program.”

Vanessa was starting to get a little bit concerned about what she just signed up for. “How long will I have to do this?”

“It depends on how many customers come in and whatever the customer pays for. Usually the average amount per person is three per day, so one day should cover the costs, but we will wait and see. Let’s just get you in the back so we can start the service.” He said leading her to a separate door than before.

“Umm, one last question.” Vanessa said right in front of the door. “Are there other people doing this or do I cover everything?”

“We have others here. When a customer says what they want, I pick the person most suited for what they want. Now just get inside and I will explain the rest over the speakers.” He said, shoving the girl into the room and quickly locking it behind her.

The room Vanessa was in was about the size of a school classroom. Except, instead of desks and chairs the room was completely blank. The floor, the ceiling, the walls were all made of these smooth white panels. The room was also quite cold, with Vanessa’s nipples being clearly visible underneath the skin tight zero suit. “Hello?” She yelled out in the empty space. “What do I do now?”

“Geez, impatient aren’t we,” came a familiar voice from a speaker. “I am going to explain the rest so just shut your mouth and listen. You are currently in a room that can be made to look like any setting a customer may request using a combination of physical props, holographic imaging, and some film tricks. Now, you already know what you will be doing, but here is how it is done. Using our high tech system, we will attach a special band around your neck that will allow us to implant some of the personality traits of the character the customer requests, as well as any special requests they have. This will not brainwash you or change your own personality, it will just overlap these with your own. For example, if someone wanted a character that was confident but you aren’t, you will still feel nervous, but the confidence will still show itself in your actions. While this can lead to a feeling of disconnect from what you want and what you actually do, it has no permanent impact. I will skim over how the costumes work since you are already familiar with how it works. Another thing you need to know is that after the end of one session, in order to prepare you for the next session as quickly as possible, the band will be used to lock away you memories of what exactly happened. This is also not a permanent action, with all those memories being unlocked at the end of your time here. This can cause a feeling of timelessness, but it is necessary to provide the proper service our customers expect. In a similar vain, the last think you need to be aware of is that the room may make some minor changes to you so you better fit your role. Any changes done before or during a session are reverted through the use of a special gene tool we were gifted by one of the other stores in the mall. I’m sure you have many more questions and concerns but I don’t care.” And with that the speakers clicked off.

Vanessa felt like her brain had short circuited from how much information she was just told. Personality overlap, memory locking, gene editing, it was all too much. Just as Vanessa was trying to get all of her thoughts straight, she felt a thin metal band get locked around her neck, as well as something getting stuck into the back of her neck. With that, Vanessa felt her body go numb, and even her mind to an extent.
