Jessica senses her shift in mood and looks at you. “You feel like soccer’s going OK?” she asks.

“I think so,” you say. “I don’t think we’ll win the games, but everyone’s having fun. There won’t be much of a story in it. We’re too nice.” Ellen’s team was expecting some competitive toxicity.
