She walked for maybe an hour, thoughts dwelling somberly on marriage and feelings. As she meandered along a sunny path, she noticed a tall man lurking in the shadows under the trees further along. His clothes were dark and his hood was pulled up to conceal his face. He leant nonchalantly against a tree as if he was waiting for someone. However she could feel his hidden eyes were watching her, sending a shiver up her spine.

Liandra paused, unsure whether to carry on or turn back. If she continued and he was a bandit he might attack her! If she went back, he might follow her. On the other hand he could also be a fellow traveller and completely harmless. Caught out in the open, she dithered, wondering what to do.
