Chapter 21 by red_ red_

Does Sam catch on?

Sam finds that bathroom

"Alice?" Sam yelled hopefully, "It's Sam, remember me?"

Sam willed himself to forget that he actually said that, and followed the hallway to the right. He was pretty sure he heard Alice walk off this way, although in the mostly-dark hallways, he was lucky he didn't just walk into a brick wall. He tried to turn on lights when he found the switches, but since it was an old house, the wiring electrician was very stingy with them.

He made his way downstairs, found a parlour that looked like it had a decently stocked liquor cabinet (recently used, probably by that minx Alice) and made a mental note of its location for the future. The big double doors at the back of the parlour were open. Through them he found the library.

"Alice?" he said quietly, his impulse to be quiet around books well ingrained in his subconscious. (As well it should be. He did not instinctively turn his phone to vibrate, however, so the author will not feel too bad about doing humiliating things to him.)

There was one light on in the bathroom, and he went toward it. He found it as Alex left it, the page open to the picture of the hot French maid.

"Wow. I wonder if it's too late to major in archaeology."

He picked the book up, and as he did so, he dipped his hands into something wet on the counters. His hands started burning.

"What the heck?" he yelled as he wiped his hands urgently on his thighs and butt. After a moment, the burning resumed there. He grabbed the soap and started scrubbing his hands. "What the hell is this stuff?"

It's a good thing no one will ever mistake Sam for a girl or he might be in for a new discovery. Of course, with that long hair...

What happens next?
