Chapter 49 by reaper13
What's next?
Their first nectar harvesting
After a short flight, Rebecca and her offspring arrived at the flowers. The first one they flew to is the one that almost ate Rebecca.
“Be very careful about this one.” Benjamin instructed them. “This flower will eat you. Make sure to always stay away from it.”
After that, Benjamin flew over to some lavender. The girls were instantly captivated by the scent and Bella even landed on the lavender flowers before Benjamin shower her how. The stem bent under her weight and she almost fell off, but she was able to hold on and pushed her head into the flower and immediately started searching for the nectary.
“That one is going to have difficulty with patience.” Benjamin told Rebecca.
Benjamin then landed on the same flower that Bella was already harvesting from and showed the others where the nectary is hidden. Following that, Rebecca’s daughters spread out all across the patch of lavender and started harvesting. Rebecca too went to work and dove with her head into a flower. She quickly got covered in pollen, especially around her shoulders.
As the bees were gathering, they suddenly heard a voice yell out, “Hey, baby! Nice legs you got there!”
Rebecca turned to look at where the voice came from and sighed when she saw who was talking to them. It was a fly. What’s worse, there’s three of them. Her daughters had heard the fly’s remark and had stopped their harvesting to pay attention to them.
“Hey! You with the blonde hair!” One of the other flies said. “Can you show off those buns again?! They looked real nice!”
This isn’t good. Her daughters are only a day old. If this is their first interaction with other insects, they will perceive it as normal.
“Girls!” Rebecca called out to her daughters. All of them turn their heads to their mother and heard her say, “Those are flies. They are annoying and selfish and can only think about themselves! Just ignore them and keep harvesting!”
Hopefully, they will just leave and find someone else to bother. Like a female from their own species. If they don’t, Rebecca will just tell them, “I know of your kind. You flies are just vulgar and perverted. All you can do is think about sex.” And if that doesn’t work, she still has her stinger.
The girls listened to their mother and got back to harvesting nectar, as did Rebecca. After the third flower, she was so covered with pollen on her shoulders, on her face and they were also in her hair and they made her feel quite a bit warmer. The same happened for all of her daughters. At first, they tried brushing the pollen off, but that just made it stick to their hands. Unfortunately, the flies didn’t take the hint and continued annoying them
“Come on babe, we’re just having some fun! Why you gotta be so nasty?!” The first one said as he flew closer.
“Don’t think I don’t know about you … flies.” Rebecca said. “Y-you just want to …” Crap, Rebecca is feeling so hot that she can’t think straight. “… be vulgar and h-have sex.”
Rebecca saw the fly move behind Bella while she had her head inside a flower. “Well, I sure wouldn’t mind being vulgar with that sexy booty.” He said as he checked out Bella’s butt.
Rebecca felt disgusted. How dare this lowlife objectify her firstborn like that. She started slightly extending her stinger just in case he decided to make a move on her daughter.
But then Rebecca got distracted. Her antennae picked up a strange scent. Something she never smelled before. She looked behind her and got the shock of her life. There was a giant right behind her. How did it sneak up behind her? It was huge, walking on just two legs and it was practically hairless, aside from gigantic strands of hair coming from its head. Rebecca looked around and noticed her daughters had seen it too. What kind of creature is this? Is it dangerous? Should they flee?
“Oh, don’t worry. That creature is harmless.” The first fly said.
“Harmless?” Rebecca asked. “It’s looking straight at us! With huge eyes!”
“He is right.” Benjamin said as he flew closer to Rebecca. He flies close to her and tries to rub some pollen off his eyebrows. “My brothers and I have seen that giant a couple of time. She lives in the square mountain. Or at least we have seen her going in and out several times. It is probably her hive or something. And whenever she notices us, the worst she does is stare. She never swats at us or tries to do harm. So, we can just ignore her and continue our work.”
After explaining, Benjamin ignored the giant and went back to work. Rebecca sat still and watched the giant. She took some time staring at her and her daughters, but eventually, the giant walked away and did something completely unrelated to them. It saw them. It knew they were there … and then it just ignored them. Rebecca doesn’t like to agree with the fly, but it seems it was right. This giant, despite looking so scary, is actually quite gentle.
After the encounter with the huge creature, Rebecca decided to get back to work. It didn’t take long for her container to be full of nectar and she made certain to harvest close to Bella. That way the fly wouldn’t make any moves on her.
When Rebecca’s container was full of nectar, she signaled to Benjamin to go. He called out to his daughters and they all flew into the air and gathered around him. Except for one. A worker called Phoebe. She was still on the lavender with the second fly right next to her, talking to her.
“Phoebe!” Rebecca called. “It’s time to go!”
That made Phoebe quickly grab her container and fly towards them. Rebecca hovered and glared at the fly. He had better not put any strange ideas into her precious daughter’s mind.
