Chapter 40 by SingingLark SingingLark

Will Liandra be able to tell her father?

Angry parents

Her father was waiting for her. The King and the Queen were at the gardens, the guard circling the place, but giving the royal family privacy. Liandra had to start hearing a litany of shame, and she heard it all quietly.

"... this folly went for too long. You will behave yourself, do you understand me? No more friends sleeping over, or whatever it is that you were experimenting last night" It was the first time the King had to chastise his daughter, so he was understandably very bad at it. And he was afraid of war. When she didn't reply, he repeated "do you understand me?"

"...Father, I am..." Liandra tried to say, but her father didn't let her. "Don't tell me you are sorry. Sorry wont cut it. A princess shouldn't be sorry, she should have known better." It was so unfair, she wanted to be forthcoming with them, she really did, but he wasn't even letting her speak.

"Mother..." the Queen had always been understanding and supportive, but this time she was neither. She said "Your father is right, Liandra. Do you have any idea how much people talk? And the horrible things they say."

The leash collaring her neck was the only thing that gave her strength to not break in tears. She kept her eyes low, hearing dutifully absurd versions of what really happened, and most of them exempted her from any participation in the act.

Just take it?
