She works in a small old cinema

Alice has been working at the movie theater in the small town for over a month now.

Alice is glad that her stepmother allowed her to work at all.

Her stepsister Stacey, unlike Alice, never had to worry about money, of course. She got everything she wanted from her mother.

But Alice was quite different.

She quickly realized that since her father was gone, she got nothing, and only had to wear Stacey's used clothes.

Alice was also never paid for school trips and other school excursions, so she could never go on them.

What led more and more to the fact that she lost the connection and the respect of many of her classmates.

But she didn't care. She still had her only two friends, Josie and Edmund. And not to forget, her books, of course.

And one day, Alice is sure, she will make it out of this town where hardly anyone likes her.

Working in the cinema is not difficult and while the movies are playing she can devote herself to her books and occasionally to homework.

Cleaning the hall from popcorn and cups after the shows, is an easy one for her when compared to what she has to clean at home. Because at home, she is used as a cleaning lady, so to speak.

She hardly ever sees people from her school at work anyway, because a movie theater from a large chain with the latest technology opened in town six months ago, and everyone prefers to go there.
