Chapter 21
by SingingLark
How does Liandra react to the sudden change?
Scream
Liandra screamed with all her might, until her lungs hurt and she ran out of breath. Her body was once more feeble and soft, result of years of aristocratic life. Snow pounced on her once again, but this time to stop her from hurting herself. He held her until she calmed herself.
"This is the real me..." She told Snow "A... packmate convinced me to drink a potion, and stole my form, and gave me hers." She was miserable, and even the usually cruel Winter Wolf took pity on her. "I am... was a princess. The daughter of the Alpha. I though she just wanted to take over my life, and I though it a fair trade, because I was sharp and strong. I loved being the huntress, give it back to me!" She begged the Winter Wolf, even if there was no reason to believe he could.
"... you are weak and frail, yes, and by right should perish and die in Winter. But we are well supplied for the rest of the snow days, and you are all that I have for a pack. We will see how strong you can become, I will chew the marrow of your bones if you cant grow." Fear cut the princess soul, but also a certain sense of relief. She didn't want to be just an empty husk for the rest of her life.
Her own body was smaller than Altima´s, and her tight pants and shirts no longer fit her. She didn't have time to sew something new for her, she was just glad her boots and cloak still fit her.
Training outside was arduous work, she had to hold her sword with both hands now, and each wild swing sent her on her knees the treacherous snow sipped her strength. When she ran her feet buried deep in the soft snow, and it didn't take more than thirty yards for her to be running out of breath. On both cases a growl from the Winter Wolf added the fear and adrenalin she needed to renew her effort, despite herself loath the idea of being eaten by her closest friend was understandably unappealing.
Liandra didn't notice her swift improvement; her mind and soul taught the way for her cloistered body. For the princess those last weeks of winter were an arctic hell, she was so exhausted she didn't even consider looking for a little relief with her self made toys. She also didn't notice that Snow withered, sacrificing his meals to the famished princess.
Come spring her lupine friend was just a shadow of his former self. Snow told the princess one night "if you are in an Alpha´s lineage, it is natural for you to assume this position. Someone who takes over leadership with treachery is worse than trash, he is a poison that will kill the entire pack in time". She complained and said he was her pack, and he didn't argue. In the next morning he was gone, and when she followed his track she just found his lifeless body, his soul departing with the thawing snow.
Continue to live in seclusion, or go back to her kingdom?
